Total hypothetical scenario. Post-apocalyptic wasteland and you have a laptop that can hold only your music library or your software... but not both. Do you choose your music library but not be able to make music on your computer, or do you save your software but have to be forced to make all the music you listen to from there on out?

"All music other than my own sucks" isn't accurate but a future where I couldn't listen to any music is bleak while a future where I couldn't make any music is incomprehensible. This might sound blasphemous but given the choice of only being allowed to listen or only being allowed to create, I would have to create. Even if my tunes suck. And I LOVE listening to ALL the musics. This isn't narcissistic, is it?

Music library, I could bang some sticks on an old oil can if I felt the need to create my own. And porn, lots and lots of porn - a post-apocalyptic wasteland could get lonely.

Although I don't agree to "all other music sucks", it is impossible for me to live without creating music. It doesn't need to be software, though. A guitar or a piano would do as well.

  7. A post-apocalyptic wasteland with electricity, how convenient! Anyway, I would prefer to make music proactively than listen to music passively in most any post-apocalyptic scenario. I would prefer real instruments, but software would be ok. Can I hang out with Nova? That would make the time go by...faster!

Haha no, especially since we're dealing with a hypothetical situation :)

It's a tough call. I spent most of today thinking about the same scenario and as much as I love making music, I'm not sure I could live without my favorite tunes. But being honest with myself, I tend to get bored easily, even when making music... but I never get bored listening to it.

Rush 2112 comes to mind, The priests of the temple of syrinx rise up after the holocaust and dictate all the rules and laws and govern with force fed propaganda.

    Then man rediscovering music...

And challenging the priests with it

Such a great story told with music! This whole album was a concept album that told an amazing story. These graphic style lyric vids are really effing cool too. I just gave you 3 of the seven.
In a post apocoalyptic word, like Getty Lee, I would choose to make music most definitely!
Wish they still made music like this. Not RUSH just music in genreal.

How can the scenario you described put one in a position to keep one and lose the other? If the music library and software are both present on the laptop there's no immediate choice to make. If they are not already on the laptop and you have the option to store either one in it's entirety.. that means both are safe on another medium for that to even be an option. In either scenario you can allocate the laptop space however you want.

I would save the music or neither really.... am not that attached to any of it.

Sheet music - maybe, the amount of space it would take to store my music collection, I could probably store enough sheet music to never be able to go through it all in my life time.

I can make instruments. Making a lute isn't as hard as it might seem, I made one as fun project before, it was a kit but given enough time I could probably make it all.

Need access to lots of cats though, never made strings before might take a few tries.

Ill take music... mostly because I make pretty weird music (well compared to what majority of humans/females listen to I guess)..and I figure it would be nicer to sit by the fire with a nice lady and listen to some quality music... rather than her sitting for a few minutes next to me and ending up saying something like ''wtf is that'' :woot: and run off

    1: Which would it be?

2: Do you mean music which I've created, or music by others to which I listen?

Response: I'd rather keep all the music I've made than to keep the software to make more of it.

It's like, "Would you rather go blind, or deaf?" I'd rather be deaf than blind, because there aren't any conversations worth overhearing anymore, popular music annoys me and is imposed upon me everywhere, and sight is much more useful for survival and getting around in the world - and it would be excruciating to be unable to see sunny days, happy dogs and children, nor pretty women, anymore.

If I had to choose between my shit and Beethoven's 9th or Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde... Well, that's an easy decision, isn't it?
