Having worked closely with Jon for the last ten years - including a sequel to Olias, I'm convinced that Vangelis's role in the making of the album was not minor.

  3. Brian Eno said that everybody who bought a copy of Velevet Underground & Nico started a band. Everybody I know who saw Kraftwerk play in Liverpool around 1975 started a synthpop band. I certainly did and so did these guys. A teensy bit more famously than me and my mates.

  4. Agreed. A hidden masterpiece.

  5. When I was 12, in 1967, my brother lived on the old Tavistock Road, before they built the Westway, and he was moving to australia with his wife and baby. So I got all his cast offs to take down the Portobello Market to sell for what I could get. There was this group that used to rehearse in the chuch hall on All Saints Road. They made the most gawd awfull racket you ever did hear. And you could hear it five blocks away. Syd Barret's Floyd. It was dreadful.

    Sorry, but it was.

this lines up with every story and tape I've heard about their humble beginnings.. ufo club, roadhouse gigs. theres a classic roger tale about how they were absolutely despised and would have things thrown at them and get booed everynight until one night -to the shock and delight of the band- an actual fan showed up.. so they picked on him all night

I love the Syd era but they were best known for super long instrumental freak outs; tons of feedback and weird lights. Not a scene for the normies

    this pretty nice
