I was (still am) generally of the 'Love My Way' attitude WRT dance clubs, DJ ecosystems, concerts, and capitalism in general... "There's an army on the dance floor it's a fashion with a gun my love in a room without a door A kiss is not enough in..." When the internet arrived, it was a byeee to buying albums where I'd only like one or two songs on it and couldn't return it for my money back. Movies too, and software and whatever else that could be transcribed to code. Dancing is (or was) overrated, BTW, and many people look(ed) just plain stupid doing it, including myself when I got drunk enough to try. Last edited: Dec 15, 2025 at 6:45 PM
And also this crap ended bars and small clubs from hiring bands because paying someone to play music with turntables etc. was a hell of a lot cheaper and putting an end to so many small and local bands and talent who relied on these venues to supplement their living, juke boxes were 100 times better than dj's. The sheer greed of club owners destroyed a booming industry for so many talented real musicians and bands, nothing beats live performances by musicians. Last edited: Dec 15, 2025 at 9:21 PM
In our area, the only opportunities for young bands to perform were in state-funded or self-managed youth centers; school festivals, small town festivals, and self-organized alternative festivals. Last edited: Dec 15, 2025 at 9:51 PM
Theres quite the difference of demographic between people who go to clubs and raves, and people who want to see live music. There are still plenty of live venues, at least in LA.
