That was rather back in the day... :bleh: it begs the question, what was the first plug-in with a photorealistic GUI that looked like a piece of hardware?

HAAHAAAAAA!!!!! THIS is the winner to me, Waves has god awful ugly interfaces AND the nerve to sell it for a shitload... OR A SUBSCRIPTION BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

whats wrong with newfangled? i've never had a problem with elevate or generate, i use elevate all the time.

And because i'm a fan boy i gotta give props to Azzimov, the saint skin maker for 3rd party nebula programs. his skins not only look amazing, with animations and everything they add FUNCTIONALITY to the programs. If anyone has three bucks a month extra and uses nebula i HIGHLY recommend subscribing to his patron. even if you don't there is still a bunch of free ones. he even will make custom headers for nebula, personally I changed the logo from Acustica to Azzimov lol cause he certainly cares more for nebula than acustica has.

I love Ableton GUI and session view. I tried them all but it's the DAW that I'm more productive and inspired with. Nothing fancy but
for my needs it's simply the best. I started with "cool edit": that was some serious ugliness ahahahah

Yes but the design comes from the last ice age :rofl:it's not like Waves is still designing their newer plugins to look like that.
Not that Waves doesn't suck, they do.

pre 2000 was seriously ugly in terms of windows GUI and GUI design was somewhat premature still.
(and now some kind of nostalgia is attached, with these designs, so that if there is a windows classic theme for a plugin or a DAW, i would use it.)

I compared bitwig vs Ableton, i know bitwig has a few + points in terms of handling things different, but bitwigs GUI somewhat to much for me, to many details, the color palette is to distracting for me.

yeah, that's the point! it's like... going to the store and there is a toothbrush that has vibrating bristles and sonic plaque remover and gives you a blowjob and then there is a normal toothbrush, and the normal toothbrush costs 349 dollars still cause thats what it cost when toothbrushes were still a new invention. they are lazy lazy lazy- not that i'm trying to give you a hard time lol i just can't help to pile even more onto the waves hate, give them no quarter mateys! :mates::winker:

I guess they were trying to chase the steampunk aesthetic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk a post-apocalyptic subculture, inspired by the 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery. While from a stylistic point of view, it can also be fascinating in science fiction films, it is definitely inconvenient when used as graphics for an audio plugin. I tested Butch Vig Vocals only once: it pissed me off and I never used it again. Fail.

Word. Many of Melda's layouts are annoying, not to the point of being unusable, but just enough to bug you. I only own a couple of their plugins and thankfully they're fairly consolidated, like AutoAlign. Ableton has a weird layout that I could never adjust to when I was testing out a bunch of DAWs years back, it never fit my workflow, but it's the overall design and theme was what really bothered me; it looks like a framework you'd find behind a panel of a machine in System Shock '94... ... which, I just realized, will now probably make some people like it even more than they already did.

it looks like it could be a chronograph (watch). the problem with that is that nothing about the plugin is related to time.
