  3. I remember helping 3 guys put a Yamaha cs 80 synth in their van after a gig at the Mudd Club in 1977ish (edit: 1978, the address was 77 White street, just looked it up to make sure). My back still hurts.

I remember when the whole band (and some friends) did "mixdown/master automation". Drafting tape, hands and fingers everywhere.
If one guy fucked up, we had to redo it all. And being late night/early morning, after a looong mixing session, we sure fucked up alot.

I remember the 1st time I saw a Harmonizer, the 1st time I saw Pro Tools (just 2 track/stereo, we still mixed to 30ips 1/2inch Studer at the same time)---writing on the wall. And yeah, I did some of 6-8 handed all night cocaine and booze fueled mixing sessions. Listening to some of those was one of the reasons I gave up coke and booze...

I remember voices played at triple speed from tape,
a feat so damned remarkable and stunning at the time ...
that 'Purple People Eater' topped the charts in '58.

I remember bouncing-down tracks on a four-track cassette recorder, pre-EQing them so that highs would transfer with the least tape hiss, and setting the levels so as to retain instruments' presence while not peaking-out or compressing by saturating.

My favorite modern synths are the ones that sound retro. Keyboard player for-- Here Come the Mummies--uses retro sounding synths. Love the funky sound of that band.

I'm with ya there....it was painful cause we didn't even have good pro tape machine access in early days (early-mid 60's)...recording all-in-one band takes using convoluted setups....God how far we've come when ordinary people can create "masterpieces" in there bedrooms because of technology advances, and willingness of some to share software that we couldn't even dream of having access to. Life is good and it's a great time to be alive and a musician!
