Physical access. Employees not adhering to security best practices or deliberately breaking rules. Read up on "bad usb" attacks if you want, but if you are looking for it under Kali it may not be there. It will be on Nethunter docs, if not.

We have the Olympic Games going on now. But Olympic Games was also the "project" name which got a usb flash drive picked up in a parking lot and stuck into physically air-gapped network in Iran. Their little Stuxnet run-in with "stupidity" blew up a few thousand centrifuges. It's hard to chalk something like that up to simple "stupidity" when you are talking about some nuclear physicists.

That is still an example of an IT failure, not stupidity exactly. Who air-gaps systems and then leaves the usb ports installed and working? An IT manager (and auditors) with poor imagination.

stupidity takes many shapes and forms and is infinite , an Italian economics professor wrote a great paper on it

there are actual ways (metrics) that can be used to evaluate hardware robustness for purpose. But the 1st thing is understanding the purpose.
It could be many things, memory, cpu, hard drive, i/o contention caused by software issues. you don't just say " i think I'll add a luggage rack to my car, because it might make it start better", you can actual diagnose and repair the starting system in a vehicle. In the same way you can diagnose and repair the hardware and software in a computer. But you must do it methodically, and with purpose, not guess at what might be, as it might also not be and how do you measure or pinpoint without knowledge and metrics?

I've never seen the computer, or the environment it runs in, I won't guess what it needs. I can however state how to discover what is the problem, and that is to begin by looking up the requirements of the programs the OP is running on the computer.

    Best Tips for Anyone:

    1. Turn off drive encryptions like bitlocker or similar.
    2. ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE
      - Remove any 3rd party antivirus scanning software. They are useless and wear your computer down. Windows has built-in protections (even they need to be optimized).
      - In Windows security settings, add your DAW, sound libraries, and project folders to the exception (do not scan) list.
    3. Keep Sound libraries and projects on separate from OS drive. There is gray area for this, some plugins are difficult to migrate like Arturia stuff. I have kept all other sample libraries on a separate drive. You never know when OS is just randomly doing some maintenance on system drive.
    4. Use audio drivers recommended by your interface manufacturer. Alternatively, you should have ASIO4ALL installed just in case.
    5. A good enough buffer rate for recording midi is 128, but if using a lot of plugins, you may have to use 256. Avoid using mixing plugins before recording vocals to keep latency and cpu usage low.
    6. When in the mixing stage, you'll want to use a buffer of 1024 or 2048 to get the best out of your CPU..latency won't matter at this stage.
    7. Commit to Audio! I'm guilt of this too, I love to keep my midi intact. My cheat to this is loading the same Ableton session in Bitwig 5 after initial production and bouncing out the audio in arrangement view while still keeping midi in grid view. Of course you can freeze tracks in Ableton, but you either lose use of midi or you have duplicate tracks. Bitwig solved this problem elegantly.
Other than than these, I did not do any other complex optimizations that others have done on this forum. I have AMD and Intel machines running smoothly with various project sizes.

If you print your midi parts to audio, bounce in place, freeze, whatever; if you disable every instrument and fx plugins on that channel and hide that track, it uses almost 0 resources. You can do the whole thing without even leaving your DAW.

...why reply with nonsense like this regarding a question for optimizing a DAW?! An air-gapped DAW is NOT likely at any point (in history) to be attacked by anyone! This is just random BS that has nothing to do with DAW performance optimization! It's like me dragging random quotes like HDMI - TEMPEST attacks, so make sure you tinfoil your HDMI cables in case someone wants to 'sniff' your monitor data?! Duh!

I'm sorry, but who are you? I replied to the comment I quoted. I realize that I'm going to be missing out on your much more valuable insights into the topic of Information Security, which real studios with real clients' work to actually care about; but I'm going to take the risk of missing out on the 2 nuggets of gold information you seem to generate every year. Ignored.

As riveting I'm sure your "reply" will undoubtedly be, save your 6 months worth of contributions for someone who cares.

Any serious producer will never use his PC/laptop for internet use.. When producing because of the risks! One for the socials /porn etc..:bleh: & the other keep for work.

Oh, I'm terribly sorry to intrude on your bubble of brilliance! I didn't realize I was in the presence of the almighty guru of Information Security. I'm positively quaking at the thought of missing out on your pearls of wisdom. By all means, continue dazzling real studios with your groundbreaking insights. It's truly a tragedy that I'll be deprived of those two golden nuggets of information you manage to conjure up annually. I'll try to carry on with my insignificant existence, somehow. Ignored.

Please, save your precious six months' worth of contributions for someone worthy of your genius.

And if I want to look something up do it on the smartphone? Weird workaround, just schedule your stuff bro that's way easier

We never talked about offline systems bruh until you mentioned it. Not a good idea to talk about stupidity in that position. He stopped updating and didn't specify whether he has no internet connection on that computer.

I do prefer using my phone to look stuff up, thanks for asking but we're not related as brothers. :)

That's gonna be my last reply.

If someone interested, I'm collaborating with Creosynth (a content creator-orinted AME playbook) author to obtain good - but not unstable - W10/11 modded systems.

    https://github.com/mewostick/Creosynth#readme

Fot those who won't make mods to the OS the "official" alternative is Windows 10/11 LTSC.

This is interesting... I tried ReviOS AME playbook and works well, I wonder what the differences are.

I don't think anyone has mentioned LatencyMon.
