To cut a long story short, she basically wants to be famous. When I inquired if she had any songs of her own, she said she did not. So I offered to chuck a few ideas her way, and I knocked up a couple of rough melody/harmony outlines on the piano and sent them over. She replied that she doesn't like piano, and have I got anything that sounds like Beyonce. I'm really not sure how to play this one ...

 

You gotta get those ole Hip Hop & R&B skills out to bamboozle the diva. This sounds like it's gonna be fun!

 

I can't imagine what it's like never to have been exposed to work-in-progress music, only ever having the experience of singing the fully formed works of other famous established artists.

Good luck Zenarcist! Beyonce has piano in lots of her tunes such as Pretty Hurts (pretty dang good), for example.

The creation of Beyoncé's album 4 involved 10 studios and almost 20 producers. The one constant, apart from the singer herself, was recording engineer DJ Swivel (in this case it could be you Zenarcist!).

Also, Beyonce's vocal chain usually involves mics like a Telefunken ELA 251 ($8995) or an AKG C12 (approx. $12,000) into Neve 1073 ($2800), so start saving up and you too, if the material is up to her standard, can be SOMEONE.

 

She does not likes piano? Where is she from? Mars? I suppose she fear the piano because it is like a mirror (for a singer) and the mirror does not lie. Let her go (...after her has paid you, of course).

Try to educate her on "you don't know how it works yet, but if you want to learn.." and see how well she gets on (and bail it's it's clear that not only she hasn't got a clue, but will never get one, it's just not worth the hassle/effort)

Maybe she's more comfortable having some beats to work from, rather than just a piano, if she's not used to writing music in that way?

 

I blame this forum. It's full of people who know a great deal about a lot of different things. I guess subconsciously I was thinking all people connected with music are like this
