not to sound bad... but they are all very old now.
The newer chips are brutal in Comparison
not to mention they are still not fully optimized
& the bigger chips are equally fast, as is the mobile silicon

 

Kinda seems like you're actively ignoring every new chip that isn't a flagship, top of the line release.

If you're making software that doesn't run well on a 9900k, R7 5700g, 10700, then you're going to get what, a few more instances to run well on the newest chips?

Also take IPC into consideration and how DAWs leverage that vs clock speed, or how capable DAWs are at utilizing multi thread processing. It requires a lot more knowledge and information that just "new chip faster and gooder".

Half the the CURRENT generation chips being released are on par with the previous generation (or 2) in terms of performance. This years i3 is last year's i5 in many ways. A 5950x will be more performant than a weak 7000 or 9000 series chip in many applications. The 5000 series chip will draw a lot more power tho.

Edit: And then there's mobile chips (other than M 1-4 series). It's a mess. Last year (and I think even this year) there are laptops being sold with AMD ZEN 2 processors!

Soundpaint isn't doing anything mind-blowing compared to other samplers/instrument library engines. Definitely not enough to eat as much CPU as it does compared to Kontakt on the exact same chips. Soundpaint needs some optimization imho.

dude, with all due respect, some of your chips are over 10y old + the core speeds
are not so different inside those chips generations, not talking about multicore here

not that important to what's being discussed here

if you ask any of those vendors they will tell you
you need a better/newer chip

 

1. Hmm seems you've completely missed the point of the original observation that Soundpaint uses significantly more CPU on every CPU. Having a newer CPU doesn't mean that Soundpaint becomes more efficient than Kontakt from my testing. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Well, we are talking about multicore if Soundpaint and Kontakt can use multiple cores! Or I guess just give me a single core, single thread processor that runs at 9GHz. I genuinely don't know if either of them can use multiple cores at once. There are VSTs like Diva that can split workload across multiple cores, but I've also heard that Ableton can only utilize one core per channel? Idk if that's true tho.

2. Yes, outdated shitty NEW laptop/mobile chips are relevant. If I can buy a flagship mobile chip from 3 years ago that's better than a brand new low power Celeron tier chip, then you'd get better performance from the old chip! Funny how that works. Newer isn't always better.

I guess it makes sense that these 4-5 year old chips use a lot of CPU processing power to use a rompler/sampler engine for a simple piano library because Soundpaint is simply too amazingly powerful and old chips are stinky Doo Doo that are barely usable nowadays.

Guess I should upgrade my Ryzen 5 5950x to a Ryzen 5 9600x to get a huge performance increase across a project using tons of instances of Soundpaint.

3. Wait, if I ask AMD or Intel whether or not I should give them money every year for a new chip, they're going to tell me I should!? Well they're probably right and they have no incentive to mislead me.

Luckily, like most musicians, I'm a tree that grows money and I listen to everything the corporations tell me, so I just blow money buying the newest chip every year!

But even then, Kontakt will still use less CPU per instance than Soundpaint. So, um, guess I'll stick to Kontakt for now until Soundpaint can make it's engine more efficient.
