I’m open to all feedback. I use to enhance my writing and mixing. Whether positive or negative.

By the way I mixed with Mixbus32c demo with “ minimal “ HW usage. IMG_2426.jpeg IMG_0831.jpeg

90's af! I would try to get out of the cage: intro/verse/chorus/verse/outro: too predictable

Overall nice piece. I will not say much about the sound, as it has this lo-fi 90s sound (in a good way). I really liked the flow. I really missed this kind of stuff. Btw vocals sit in the mix. Nice . Maybe you could dust it off, add some sparkle , but all these are only according to taste and not because it doesn't sound good. I could play it on air just as it is too. Keep it real.

The purpose is to experiment with new solutions and progress, which is the point of arrival for every artist. You know, the boombap has already said it all (and much better than that). I mean, with such a song you're just trying to be a 90's rap cover band (not a great goal).
The track needs a spark of creativity

Excellent, the only thing I noted is the bass (or low guitar)is more on the left side of pan, it seems there's also a sub bass that's centered: I'd keep everything in the centre or in alternative I would record/sample layering the low guitar/bass in stereo and have it balanced in regard to pan, not more prominent on a single side. Not a criticism, just my thoughts. Aside from that, excellent track. The lows are a little bit cluttered to me(maybe a hint of overcompression?) but just a little, nothing too obvious.

It doesn't "need" it, there are times where one wants to just express things in a certain way and that can be "copying" a style from the past. It depends from what the OP expects from the track

Ok, so as not to hurt @Patrick_ artist's ego I will say that In my opinion, the track needs a spark of creativity, in my opinion It sounds good, rapper is good, good producers, but I've already heard a few million songs like this in my life, it doesn't turn me on: it’s 90's copypaste style without any added creativity. Producing old school boombap in 2023 can be interesting when intended as a new genre, with new ideas in it. For example, this has been happening for some time with the 80's sound, it is called "synthwave”: it's an old school italo disco oriented genre, but with contemporary ideas in it
Get to work Patrick, your mission is to translate 90's rap into the 20's and it is not an easy task
    Good luck

I understand what you're saying and I agree with you generally, I was just trying to say that maybe this is not OP's goal. The Weeknd, for example, in tracks like Save your tears, In your eyes, Blinding lights or Sacrifice is a good example of adding something new while taking from past styles. These productions, except Sacrifice, have a 80's/sinthwavy touch but with a top notch pop production and mixing that to me is the best example of what you're saying.

I like most, if not all hiphop; but almost all of my favorites are from 1993 to about 1996 and from New York. If that is "the goal", it's a damn good one.

i really like this. the mc sounds pretty influenced by Busta Rhymes! The scratching could be tighter, i probably wouldn't have noticed but it was already mentioned. That lick is very similar to the one in Gangstarr Full Clip. It's on the "go ahead" sample.

really good stuff. thanks for letting us hear it :)

Overall I think this is a very strong effort. Especially knowing we are currently in the age of very disposable/formulaic pop and trap music. The mix-master seems to be super on point to my ears (by boom-bap standards). What I don't get is whatever El Cycer is rambling on about.. I guess he/she wants it to be a 14 minute Mars Volta arrangement where the song starts with a chorus repeated 9 times??

The formula OP is using has sold 100's of millions of records and continues to do so present day. Don't change a thing. I really dig it.

    Dope work!

In my life, I have always listened to fresh releases as if it were a sort of news broadcast: I love listening to underground music (of any genre) and I consider artists as reporters who bring me breaking news around the world in real time. There are exceptional artists who even report the news that will happen in the future, but there are few of those - they are gifts from God - and one of them is born every 20 years.
For the same reason, when I listen to something already said, a sound I've already heard, I consider it uninteresting: I mean, who wants to read yesterday's newspaper? Unfortunately in music, we drown in "yesterday's newspapers". also, streaming platforms don't help at all in this sense: the algorithm only rewards the most listened songs: this is not at all proactive in highlighting emerging artists (who are always the best).
I'm definitely offtopic now and I know, but I wanted to answer your question "What I don't get is whatever El Cycer is rambling on about".
Thanks for introducing me to Mars Volta: I feel there is something good in their music
