I dont' listen to hip-hop but over the years, witnessing the evolution (for lack of a better word) of the the rap scene, it has pissed me off just looking at some of these kids with zero talent influence the newer generation, and more importantly gain recognition. one might argue "well, it is the the people that accept that kind of work and encourage the artist to sing like that (and yes I'm referring to mumble-rap), so if the people don't encourage that, the artist will soon give up).

There's a lot of contradiction and so many possible arguments could arise from what I just wrote above, but bottom line is that i am so glad the the Real Slim Shady dropped a bomb on these with his new album Kamikaze.

Listening to it, just inspired me to want to not only produce hip-hop beats, but actually be able to rap. This is the sorta influence we need. I list some of my favorite tracks below, including a video that describe who he dissed, and why.

With all due respect for mr slim shady whom I've been a fan of back in the days like 15 years ago, but I really dislike his new release. I feel like these old rappers don't understand that 'the game' isn't being lyrical in the 'traditional' sense no more. While some people claim that music lost it's soul and is becoming less organic or whatever etc, I feel like it's exactly the opposite. Some people keep swimming upstream and don't realise it's all about the vibe these days. If you fart the right melody n put some 808's under it and mumble shit over it you might end up with a hit which might be strange to some of us because in old hip hop more complex=more respect, but it seems music doesn't need to be 'serious,' 'real', 'complex' and/or 'lyrical' at all. I get really bored listening to these mad, angry raps. All the new kids rap with much more (autotuned) melody in it which I feel is way more pleasing to casually listen to while this stuff is way 'heavier'. When I listen to music I want to hear cool sound and 'escape reality'. My 2 cents. :guru::mates:

The Real Slim Shady is nobody's boy, for real...and is the real deal. Mumble and Critics is very good, objectively.

I am so sick of these casually passing through, I'm only a "very" casual listener of rap music in general, but rap isn't the best music so I flock to Eminem to receive the latest state of union address for hip hop ass fans .... In 2018 you have a variety of artist who you can listen to. Mumble rap is popular, but the gate keepers are still those who provide us (real fans of this genre) with quality and great lyricism. Don't get it twisted. There's bullshit, but there's also dope rappers that are in between "mumble" and lyricism. I just refuse to let people get away with being fake "inspired" or "excited" because Em spoke about how he's feeling toward these new generation of artist. Em actually falls in that category of bullshit. For almost 10 years, he provided rap fans with bullshit music for his pop fans and he was feeling the pressure for it. Those last 4 albums were absolute garbage. Em felt the pressure from his contemporaries as well. That's why he's back in this rap pocket. If you gone criticize this culture, educate yourself about who currently runs this genre. The top guys are the lyrical ones.

Hip hop which is a culmination of Bboy DJ Rapping etc.. started in 1973 at a PARTY. I emphasize party because a party is supposed to be fun, it only later became lyrical because of the god body era. I'm not saying being lyrical is bad... what I am saying is lyrical doesn't mean substance. And the last two Eminem albums had NO substance. It's just ironically "mumble rap" because he's just putting words together for a cool rhyme/multi. I know the casual rap fan orgasms over that. The truth is damn near anyone that can rap, can string multis like that. They choose not to because its 10/10 corny in this day and age. Times change and so do styles, melody is king. It's always been king and its the reason why eminems tracks still have that 08 pink/skylar grey POP hook because hes pandering to the whitest of white guys who don't really like rap. Eminem is extremely overrated in my opinion. Tech 9ine, A-F-R-O and others would tear him a new one with substance. He has a cult fan base so he'll always sell but thats about it. That's why Eminem is rapping over trap beats that still are 2 years dated but eventually he'll keep up. Plus theres plenty of FIRE new age rappers J.I.D , Denzel Curry, Saba, Noname, Tierra Whack, Mick Jenkins, Isaiah Rashad, Gold Link, Bas, Raury, Masego, King Los, UnderAchievers, EarthGang, Jazz Cartier, BrockHampton, etc...

Oh boy. I get that you hate all the mindless mumble rap, but this cringe worthy album by Em surely isn't any better. Em lost it. He had it back in the day. Last two albums were atrocious.

All of his disses just sound like an old washed up has been yelling get off my lawn.

Also that line about Tyler The Creator was ridiculous. Go and listen to Flower Boy or Cherry Bomb, both projects are 10 times more interesting than anything Em has put out lately.

Eminem is one of the few rap artists I always enjoyed listening to, and I usually listen to rock/metal.

I have listened to rap and hiphop as long as any other genre ive listened to .
this (along with many others) style of "music" is sound play, abstract audio art.
there is too much nuance to paint any overarching statements.
yes there are aspects of older hiphop "better" then new mumble rap.
but also in different areas the new mumble rap is good or better than older stuff ( all in the context of Picasso like sound art )
newer muble rap has many cultural references and slangs and societal references, it uses modern production and engineering techniques like ultra low car stereo bass, along with cascading ambient sounds. in some ways those aspects can be considered better than older hiphop .
ultimately it is comparing apples to oranges. (which you technically can still do)
my opinion is i listen to both for different things they can both co-exist and be different in my mind and ears.

    Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiimm!

This will get me going again with rap/hip-hop. Straight from the first few seconds Noname-Telephone Album has me hooked. Thanks SO much for the hints. I just can't relate to any of the party-rap or gangster-rap stuff. I liked Eminem most when he put on a serious face or got really angry/emotional in his raps. There's nothing left of that as far as I can see. It is all just playing around, which is nice but it does not vibe with me... I want serious/reflective/thoughtful rap

When I hear Em's tracks it sounds like a man who became mentally disturbed in an awesome way.

I was definitely a fan of his response to MGK. One thing Em never fails at is diss tracks and really coming at people.
