I do not like black metal at all except...

    Dimmu's Enthrone Darkness Triumphant from 1997 is IMO still an unsurpassed masterpiece. A joy to listen to even if you don't generally like the genre. Sadly after that they too jumped on that "in your face hyper compressed" -type modern sound train (and less approachable songs), which just kinda just hurts your ears after a while.

    Fleshgod Apocalypse has nothing of black metal in it, not even blackened death like Behemoth. Still an awesome band. In this musical vein, I'd also recommend Emperor, Ihsahn (solo band), Carach Angren, Septicflesh and Ex Deo.

    Yep, FA isn't Black Metal. Same goes to Dimmu Borgir from EDT on, as much as I love the album. Try Winterhorde's Nebula if you like that style.
