spying in a way most people understand it, is overrated,
all these technological companies are just a means of business, which is advertising,
nobody gives a fck about you and your data as an individual, all that matters is if ad revenue grows, which is done by sneaky algorithms determining which ad rabbit hole you most likely fall into, nothing else,

this also explains why OP question makes no sense in first place,
nobody gives a sh!t about your interests, friends, preferences etc.., it's all about finding an ad topic to show you (even if it disghusts you in a way you're curiously watching it), YouTube being no exception, every video contains ads
    :chilling:

The second someone says "I broke the google/youtube algorithm" my radar for grandiose delusions pings like crazy.

No, dude. You did not break the algorithm.

Yeah, that's true and I get that, but in my opinion it's not 100% fair to make money from people by abusing their privacy data anyway though. Especially if they don't know it or has not given consent, but are you 100% fine with it that they keep track of your data?

Additionally, what if they get hacked, and sensitive data from people is going to end up in public? It obviously has beneficials, but also adverse implications.

I am aware of all this. But your statement is not 100% correct, because google is very interested in the interests, preferences and social behavior of its users. This data mining is necessary in marketing! The user should consume as much of this content as possible and interact with it. In order for the user to view the delivered content in which the advertisement is placed, the delivered content must match the interests of the user.

The point is, google/youtube has just lost me completely, because neither the recommended content nor the advertisement has any relation to my interests ;)

Have you noticed which category this thread is in?

Fair? It is marketing! Marketing is never "fair".
But if you know what you are dealing with, you can use the data analysis of google for you. So it is a win-win, even if google has more of it than you.

It only becomes unfair when you, the user, are deprived of the opportunity to weigh up and decide. Which will be a big thing in the future. But that is not the topic here.

Well, marketing is mostly also caused by customers themselves, if you know what I mean. For instance if people aren't really that hungry for like let's say iphones, then they would not be over like $1000. I don't hate iphones, but the price is absolutely crazy.

That's a really interesting doc. Although is an extremist view (on the magnitude of the actual and upcoming consequences) it has a lot of interesting and troubling facts. It helped me connect some dots I was having some trouble understanding.

Besides Duckx2Go there is another usefull search thing
    https://www.ecosia.org/
it uses search earnings to plant trees (so it says)

    Translations
    https://www.deepl.com/translator
uses ai to get the most accurate "human like" aka context aware translations
some limitations in languages. But, in languages it serves, it is def. better than google!

    for folks who use FF
uMatrix for some deeper Script+Cookie Blocking

Channel blocker & (older versions) Iridium
for youtube channel filtering (by hand)

Good lord. Its a smattering of english words misused and half typed..:woot:

If it was art it would be a jackson pollock.. but its not art, its an attempt at basic communication, failing miserably!

I need to never spend 5 minutes trying to glean some understanding from one of your posts again!.. its like a drunken monkey has logged in as @Gyro Gearloose and has been smashing the keyboard with its fists!

Ye, Channel Blocker is the best Firefox extension ever (also available for Opera & Chrome).
It lets you block any video by video title, channel name or comment by content. Since I use it, I only see what I want to see,
everything else disappeared completely and thats a lot, you can trust me.

To me it seems like google thinks I'm a sports man, especially football and I'm interested in turkish soap operas.
...I'm not even knowing a single turkish word and I hate football.

Using that addon, nothing like that appears anymore. Quite useful.

Also don't see any annoying childish comments anymore:

Another nice thing could be a complete shutdown of any google service for a while.
The VPN I use offers such an option by beeing able to apply a Google filter or Facebook filter
or even a complete social media filter. That leads into having any connection from google blocked.

    That's no big deal.
Google has me listed as "Male", and interest include 'Music" and "Games".
So that is all good, but Google keeps giving me ads on DOUBLE-DILDOS and LYCRA BODYSUITS and MAC PERIPHERALS.
That is fucking crazy because I don't own a MAC.

EAR TO LEARN said The Social Dilemma is exactly what you have to watch to understand this .

    "TLTW":
The new algo gives you exactly the Opposite of what you're looked at just because it generates more traffic and users uses the platform longer. (Simple because of the controversy it generates)

My English is simple as English tea without milk. Anyway, I am Russian, and English is not my native language. I have been learning English by myself since 3 or 4 years old, then at school (basic), then the Uni. Now, I am at sound production, music writing, beat making, engineering (recording, mixing, editing, restoration, mastering), so studio times when I am free, also sitting with my lil son, and I have my separate, main work (I sell vodka, beer, cognac, whiskey, wine, sparkling wine, cigarrettes, other bullshit that kills people... 14 hours a day). Writing crappy humour shit on Audiosex, sometimes software news posting, and reading gearwhores (with wires and connectors shootouts nuance listening thru my mobile phone shitty monitoring). That is all my English knowledge... I do not learn this anymore. I think this won't change my life in a better way.
