Could you help me out here? Please don't say anything about the purpose of your site, I wouldn't want your vision of the ideal website to be copied before you get started. I'm thinking more along the lines of your site's infrastructure. The nuts and bolts, as it were.

Would you perhaps require all, or some, or none of the following... ?

A CMS (content management system) that lets you access and update your site all by yourself.
Streaming media; for example, vids and audio.
A forum such as this one.
A personal blog to jot down your thoughts on life, the universe and everything.
    User upload/downloads.
SEO (credits to John V for that excellent recommendation).
Dynamic, fluid layout that resizes itself to fit the page content comfortably on phones, tablets and personal computer monitors.
Static image galleries - photo album/carousel.
    Newsfeeds.

Or maybe you just need someone to tweak a WordPress theme for you. Go for it, man! Hit me with your best ideas. :)

What CMS? Wordpresss, Joomla, Drupal, vBulletin ...
I also do not think this is the right place for what you ask.

If you can understand how to make music in a daw, building a website will be easy just need to read a bit.
Its always best to rely only on your self. be in control. you run tings.
Go wordpress its free easy and has tons of free some paid pluggin.
Just need a domain name and hosting, you can also buy hosting which has wordpress already setup it cost more or you can buy standard hosting then install wordpress and the mysql db to the host your self.
You can also run your website at local host before you go live
meaning you use your pc or mac as a temp server to build the site before uploading to the web.
check out mamp app, free version should be fine.
Then grab a free theme template, tons online or buy one, then edit ad more stuff.
Tons of info online about how to do it, how to get traffic and so on.
1 tip is always change your backdoor login page url name from the standard so people won't know the login page.
If you get into it and try to do it your self you will find building your own site is very fun, seen your creation seeing the traffic and all.
Just remember no one will put %110 in to your creation other than you.

I don't know what sort of site you're wanting, but I made my own by using an HTML5 template, which you can get for free:

    http://html5up.net/

    http://designscrazed.org/free-responsive-html5-css3-templates/

    – with fonticons for "social" links and other uses:

    https://fonticons.com/sets (some are free)

I also used BlueGriffon to edit and proof the site:

    http://bluegriffon.org/

    - which I found much simpler and even better than Dreamweaver for the purpose.

The thing is to build a "responsive" site, which formats itself to desktop, tablet, and mobile.
The templates don't require a lot of knowledge of CSS nor of HTML5 - but the more one knows about code, the more influence one can have on how the site looks and behaves.

If you need good, reasonably-priced hosting, there's A Small Orange:

Best of luck. Do it yourself, take the reins, and have fun with it.

Screw a responsive site. Thats the easy way out=Lazy. I build separate ones for computers and mobile, so that way I can control every aspect and dictate exactly what is shown on both. I was tired of all the responsive themes hiding the most important elements when I resized them. Nuff said....carry on
