With how quickly AI is advancing, this is not really that big of a jump as it may seem. Consider how you would do this manually.

You would listen to the track, and transcribe the lyrics of the song into text. Translate it to the new language as text, into new text based lyrics. Then something like V Synth or Vocaloid would re-create the vocal parts as audio. Then a trained AI model of the original vocalist would be used to render the original singers voice back over the synthesized vocal parts generated by the Vocaloid or V Synth.

But musically, that will probably be horrible. I have never worked on a translation version of a song, but I imagine the lyrics are altered to be musically sane. Rhyme, meter, and so on. You would also need the translation version of the lyrics checked for sanity. Otherwise your translation music AI could become the next news story like the TikTok AI that recently started belting out Hitler quotes in that Britney Spears song you are working on. Sometimes directly translated text is totally incorrect. How would you even know?

If you go to buy The I-Ching or the Analects of Confucious there are many different translators work available, all technically accurate yet wildly different, the best of them are by poets themselves and can translate sympathetically with an ear to the whole, choosing a correct metaphor in ones own language that closest represents the authors intent in another is a poets task, or at the very least a real writer.

 

This is right on the money. AI is very, very far from that point yet. Transcreation, localization and poetry translation are among the most sophisticated uses of language in human history. Also, culture plays a big part, as some peoples find it jarring when the accented syllable falls on a weak beat, while other cultures don't seem to care, and others yet don't even have quite accented syllables properly in their language to even care and so on.

But "very far" probably means about a year or so.
