I usually never post reviews of what I try but I will do an exception for this one as this is probably the 1st time that I have been that disapointed with a vsti.

Well, let's just say that I might have been expecting too much from IK because Modo Bass was really that good. I thought that I would be installing a 300 MB vsti that would end up replacing my 80 GB Superior Drummer libs.

Unfortunately this is not happening (yet).

First of, Modo Drum weights 11 GB after installation and according to other reviewers, this is not pure physical modeling, meaning that only the percs seem to be modeled but the rest (hi hat, cymbals...) are regular samples. This, of course, explains why it takes so much space on the HD.

Worst, you can't remove/uninstall what you will not use because IK chose to pack their samples in some proprietary file container. It means that you are stuck with 11 GB of space on your HD no matter what.

Finally, regarding the sound. Let's say that it's ok but I'm already fine with what I have so I don't see why I would use an additional drum lib which main incentive was to reclaim my HD space.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that IK misled/lied about this product but they should at least clarify that it's not truly physically modeled, unlike Modo Bass.

In the end, at $400, this lib is not cheap. I have no idea who is IK's target customer: if it's someone who has never bought any drum lib (BFD, SD, AD...) then they might be interested. Otherwise I'm really curious to see anyone already using another lib, making the switch and explaining why they did it.

Thank you for the review. Did you tried if there is any advantage with physical modeling (aside of saving hd space)?

I installed it to check it out. Looked pretty cool until I started digging into it. It sucks, uninstalled. No comparison to SD3, BFD or Addictive Drums. It was a waste of time.

Correct. IK have got this one very wrong. They're kidding themselves at that price aswell. Don't buy this until you've tried it.

IK wrote that thanks to physical modeling, there are no longer velocity layers associated with the drum hits. TBH I was unable to check that claim because I don' t have any MIDI kit at my disposal.

Let's give them the benefit of the doubt on that one since it would make sense that it would be simlar to Pianoteq in that matter.

It's not bad. Take it for what it is and use it to it's advantages, that's my motto. :P

Do you use other drum libs or is Modo Drum your 1st one?

Well, after playing around with Modo drums I decided to keep Superior Drummer.
IMO, SD3 is absolutely fantastic in so many ways. Not bashing Modo, which is also great, but not (yet) in the same league soundwise.

Same here not impressed at all. It's the same with modelled Pianos. It's amazing how close it gets but the Sound just can't be compared to SD3. All these options seem nice to have but in the end don't matter if the sound is not there.

Hello. The little bit I have messed with it so far I also certainly wouldn't use it to replace EZD, SD, or AD, but it isn't bad by any means. One thing, I got mine from the sister site and for some reason some of the stuff is in Arabic writing which is putting the kabosh on its workflow for me. If anybody know how to fix this I'd be very grateful.

One question I have is while I don't feel it is as good as the above listed programs how would you compare it to Naughty Seal's Perfect Drums? To me, it seems to have more similarities to that program.

I must go. I love you all. All of you!

I think that 11gb isn't that much considering I also have SD3 libraries and AD but the problem for me is that the sound is not that good. The physical modeling is cool but sometimes you can't get the sound you want. Their kits don't sound that well and are drowning in reverb. The plugin also takes a huge amount of CPU to work.

The stock sounds suck. I played with it around for an hour and really enjoyed how you can tune the drum sound to your liking. Hope they expand on the concept.

So I won't install, thank you @mrpsanter :shalom:

Let's hope they will work on it. I think physical modeling done the right way is the future. As they proved with their Modo Bass or Audio Modeling with their SWAM instruments. Flexible, really natural sounding, small HDD footprint.

compared to any other drum library this one took a lot of time to get a usable sound out of it, i was mostly disappointed because i couldn't get a good "Metal" oriented sound out of it.

    - CPU Hungry.
    - GUI slow and unresponsive.
    - Takes a lot of time to just load another piece.

    - Phase-y sound, weird phase problem with some of the pieces.
    - Not wide-enough compared to other drum samplers.
    - Weird kick drums.
    - Weird noises and click (when switching teardrop drumstick) that i never hear or heard on a real drums, or even sampled drums.
    - Not So standard mixer layout (big no for me)

That being said, after playing with it for a few hours, and with a lot of tweaking and mixing, you can get some real good drums out of it (other than metal genres of course, i liked how the rooms are sensitive and reflective, that's probably their strongest point.

now to a more of a personal problem for me:

not sure what language this is supposed to be.

I agree with you. I've yet to any VSTi drums where the preset kits are mixed well as is. There always remains alot of editing to do on them, and it's not much different than starting from scratch. Alot of the kicks are too inflated. And the snares are what I like the least. Anytime I use one of these drum set plugins I always hand pick my snare from a sample folder.
