A quick run through the creative process regarding a well-known song from the influential 80's band.

Step 1: Sketch out the idea

    Step 2: Hum a melody

    Step 3: Record your song

Step 4: Go and play it live

Step 5: Congratulations, you have now conquered the world

Just want to drop this bootleg in here, those live vocals are so haunting .. I'd say it was art over performance

Does anyone hear a little of "Dancing in the Dark" in the guitar intro on the "In Between Days" RS home demo at 0:06 - 0:08 or is it me imagining it?

Bubblegum pop/rock... It's a decent genre, but overused on the tv (adverts for all kind of s**t), so I can't stand it.

A lot of good music ends up like that, it's how you sell things to people who have grown up and finally have lot's of disposable income, by reminding them of their youth and the good times they had 20 or 30 years earlier. Nostalgia is the oldest trick in the marketing book :)

But the idea for this post was not about any genre, which is just a way of adding different color. It is about the creative process itself which is similar for all kinds of music. Unfortunately hardly anybody makes their work-in-progress material available for analysis, so we have to make do with what we can find

The Cure was always a huge musical inspiration to me. I absolutely adore the songs "Just Like Heaven" & "Pictures of You". I wish these guys were still flooding the mainstream. I'd rather hear these guys than "Work work work work work work, u see me haffi, eat shit sniff farts get gay..."
Seriously the next person who plays that godawful rihanna song is gonna wake up with a big axe in their head

One of the first Indie bands to make it big globally, they opened the door for all those who followed  You can still hear their musical influence today, and they themselves were influenced by some of the most creative bands that came before them.
