    Hi guys,

I worked and advanced a lot in my track in C major and now my singer has realized that she will be better in C minor, she is ready to stay in C major if necessary, but wanting to transpose quickly just to see, I just found some obstacles and that's where it became a challenge for me, I'd like to know how to do it (for other scales too) to not have any limitations in my collaborations later.

Usually, I just shift the notes a few semitones (pattern transpose) or shift the master pitch, but in this case, it does not work since I have to shift 3 notes only (E, A and B).

How will you do that guys? Knowing that this project contains a lot of instruments and pattern, it would be really tedious to do it manually and I risk making mistakes since each instrument also contains notes on several octaves.

    Thanks

C Major to C minor is not transposition. It's modulation.

Damn! So your singer wants to modulate to a "sadder feeling" of the song, halfway through the production process? This cracks me up.

Ok, modulation, but that does not answer my question.

Technically speaking, I still need to transpose notes, unlike the transposition which must be very simple (shift notes), I must do it avoiding other notes.

And it's not only to satisfy this singer (it's just a wish conditioned by my ability to do it at this stage), it's more a function that I want to master for other productions / adaptations.

    E to Eb
    A to Ab
    B to Bb

Like in the picture you posted.
This will turn C ionian to C aeolian (natural minor).

We can only do it manually?
So, no vst or software can transpose (modulate) a scale, while Biab and many other DAWs does it natively & in one click ? :woot:

3, 6,7 always one semi-tone before what you have in major. You select each of those in your pr, bring them half a semi tone backward, done.

Some softwares allow you to import your melody, chord prog, in midi and then you can do whatever with them transposition or modulation wise, then export it in your daw. Rapid composer comes to mind. Works both in vst and stand alone
Don't think any can do it "live" on each track without import/'export process.
Some daws with chord tracks, or some kind of chord or key features, also allow this in some fashion (Studio One, Reaper and Cubase come to mind).

Indeed, I conclude that FL can not do it natively, unless you root all the instruments one by one to a VST that smart transposes the notes like the one that Olymoon suggested to me one day (I forgot the name)

It's a shame, other DAWs as well as Biab and Rapid Composer do it too, if I had produced my track on my Korg arranger, I could have done it also in one click, it's crazy how much DAWs are late and neglect the global think of a track (on the tonal level for example), while hardware arrangers have integrated that since the beginning!

    1) Celemony Melodyne can *modulate and transpose polyphonic audio.
    2) All DAWs(!) have piano-rolls that allow you to change/edit the MIDI notes (or mode) that needs to be transposed.

    What's Biab?

  13. By modulating you effectively are recreating the entire song...the vibe, intensity and overall how it will be felt by the listener. It to me is less about modulation of key and more a re-write of the entire song in basic process as just not the melody line is changing, but rather how the other elements of the song must be finessed, nudged and compensated for in addition. Even the lyric might need to be overhauled as well as possibly a change of tempo.

That doesn't make sense mate, you can't really transpose from C to Cm, that would then be a different track, the melody would need to change as well, and many other things etc.
What does she want to do, sing it a bit higher? You need to explain what she wants to do more clearly, does she want to sing it a bit higher or lower?
I think you mean transpose up 3 semitones to Eb Major, just transpose the midi tracks up 3 semitones.

  15. In FL Studio you can choose a single note across the span of the piano roll and move it up or down
You certainly can change any note or line/lines of a given note in FL Studio's piano roll. Control/ left click and hold a line, then the next, and as long as you are moving everything the same interval you are as good as gold. It is for sure a little time intensive exercise that might be better done as in the hardware arranger here talked about, but it can be done.

If you've already recorded the song, you can use something like Cubase Logical Editor to shift the notes around? Easy enough, just one step:

Most (all?) DAWs have smthn like this. But like @superliquidsunshine said, it won't do a (necessarily?) very musical job? But it might be ok... It will give ur singer an idea of what it will sound like, and maybe starting point for you?

No, since according to your attached pic, I notice that we can not change the mode (Natural minor), I'm wrong?

Yes indeed, I want to change everything, the melody, the chords, absolutely everything, all that is musical and is on the piano roll (except of course the drums ...).

Now she does not want anything lol, it's me who want (for other production, ex: merge two tracks, one in C minor, the other in C major later)
I want to find the best solution to do this if a challenge arises, how to get into the bowels of a project and change all that is in the piano roll smart way, not just climb a note or a octave, but change the whole mode and tone.

This is not the case unfortunately, otherwise a simple master shift would have solved the problem
