I think what he's trying to say is: he wants to select a clip/object in arrangement and then mark a range around it.
Apparently he's looked everywhere and has had no joy. He then makes a sad emoji, Like this : ( which illustrates his overwhelming grief at the predicament in which he finds himself. That being unable to select the clip or object and then mark it with a range. With the purpose of marking it.

You can even make your own Keyboard Shortcut for that but its not set by default, it's accessible through the file menu under:
Edit -> Range -> manipulate Range -> Start of range to left object border and two rows below the same for your end point to the right object border.
Don't know if the technical terms I choose are correct because I use german version and they call it Bereich and not Range. But i'm pretty sure you were searching for this.. :winker: It seems one needs two commands to reach the goal here

Not as fast and easy like in other Daws but still kind of comfortable.

    yes, it's strange omission.
the thing is, in an older version of the app. i was positive there was a shortcut.
Select a clip then____? to make a renge around the selection, up in timeline bar.. wish i could be clearer...
thanks for the derision though : )

yay! i found one that works for me.
select object -> CTRL + spacebar
    go me...

you need to select "universal mouse mode" it allows the mouse cursor to change from select to grab to edit to cursor tool depending on where the cursor is placed on the object. for instance, above the center line in an object, it's a select and highlight an area tool. below the center line and it is a grab and move tool. pretty ingenious and i have not seen this in any other daw.

what i was asking about specifically was, if i select an object can i make a range to loop around that object? in other programs there is a function to do that, usually called 'loop selection' or something similar.
i have searched for it and have no joy. so perhaps that particular function does not exist in SAM x3..
it's a small thing but the devil really is in the details with apps like this ( imo)...

spoke to soon again. shortcut is CTRL + SPACEBAR...
