You're almost always reducing quality when you compress videos (unless there are no CSP conversions and you're using a lossless codec).

Consider: how much to recompress it by, and retain acceptable quality? (just like lossy audio codecs, the answer varies between people)

90% sounds like DVD/BD to phone/tablet/netbook ratio.

 

i would say your right about the 90% seemed to good to be true
it will make your mp4 about quater of the size and its still looks ok
only thing is it only works on mp4 so mov and avi ect have to be converted into mp4
but i could be wrong about that just cant find any other tab to open mov and avi yet,

 

another option is apple's compressor app . it's very useful for lowering size without quality ! It supports even 4k now .handbrake is great too but once i got into compressor i didn't look back .

 

When in a hurry, I use "Any Video Converter". It's free and it does wonders with lots of output format options.
