To me it sounds like the lead vocal is recorded two times, one panned mostly to the right, and it sounds like the other one is panned to the left, but not all the time.... Maybe some autopanner?
    And some reverb on all.

Like goodmood said its a double take or it seems as such.
But hey with all the respect, this male vocal is kinda terrible. 25 secs and it has at least 4-5 mistakes there, the "singer" does not hit the notes. Sounds to me like a rapper that tries to sing but hasn't got it. Is this supposed to be a hit song or something?

Am I missing something, I see no sample in the original post.

    Edit:
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Flash player : LOL (well at least Chrome has it built in - had to switch browsers.)

    It is a double take.

BTW the singer is not off key (Indian music has quarter tones and even 1/8 tones.)

This kind of sound can be achieved by using that magic Motown Exciting Compressor technique - Credit where credit is due.

Hey, mates, no offense but relating to the posts concerning the pan effect:
So let's try to help him with that.

Never heard of it before :dunno: but just googled it. That sounds interesting.
Don't know if they've done it in this case, but I had to try it on some vocals soon. THX

Very interesting. I'm intrigued by the fact that this will retain most of the dynamic and energy of the vocal, but bring out the soft parts and make them more intelligible and clear. Definitely have to try this when the mix is very busy (lots of instruments). Good one, @mozee!

Motown Exciting Compressor technique is simply parallel comp with eq on the comp channel?

Pretty much, it is a non dynamic bed mixed into a dynamic voice.

Credit for the link above is due to @superliquidsunshine. I've done it before but never knew the history behind it which is more interesting than the technique TBH. You can add a channel compressor on an AUX with a ducking gate on the FX as well to fatten up the voice while avoiding excessively long reverb tails as well if you want the Smokey Robinson dry chamber effect.

Only listened on headphones. Seems to me too that its "just" a "simple" automation of 2 tracks. Main track mostly paned right and the left side paning is automated between mid and left side. If i had to imitate this i would start with an automation panning aproach and 2 tracks.

Dubbing (double-tracking). Counter-panning, or as in this case some pan automation.

Some wide panning, dual tracks & a lil bit reverb! But my fav was Boro boro. (Mera primary school days ka yaad dila diya uske saath ek ladki ke v, fav one back then, thanks.)

If you want the more traditional sound of Hindustani music though it's a bit different.... The biggest difference maker is going to be the singer though, and singers are not as hard to find as people make it to be, but like everything on music some people can express themselves in a way that connects with others even if they are not the best singers (i.e Arif Lohar or Mic Jagger) while some people can or play really well but I just can't get into them no matter what (Joe Bonamassa for me at least.)

Though if you want to be super authentic you will need some Montarbo reverb and delays. I wouldn't pay attention to the DAWs or plugins used as much as the method.

I recommend iZotope Nectar 2. I'd find the closest preset that match to your samples.. and then start to tweak from there.

    JUST YOUTUBE ANYTHING ON MIXING
for instance all the episodes of pensados place, mixing with the masters
when they mention names , find the books of the names mentioned,
basically go out and find out how to learn to mix
find out the history of it the people involved what they did and why.

a quick set of tips for vocals

use tape plugins or real tape,
    use tube eqs
    use de-esser
use a channel insert on recording console analog sat)

what you want to do is fatten the transients to get them same thickness throughout the lows mids and highs without destructive towards transients.
once you get that done just apply your effects.
    double tracking
    reverb and delay
melodyne or autotune to make harmony but low in volume to thicken up track
