I noticed that some vst instruments eat lots of resources even when it is not used. For example, Roland SRX orchestra takes around 15% of resources when it is just loaded.

I found a Youtube video how to make multi-channel with a single vst, but he explained it with only a particular vst. Here is the video below:

What about other instruments such as Ample Guitar, EZdrummer, etc? Is there any way to do it?

Render, is the only way. In FL you can use smart disable for that till you trigger again. Or freeze in ableton.

Have a look at the Roland FX section. You might be able to turn off the reverb or whatever is on there that is taking up that much CPU.

Is it available only in FL? What about Studio One or Reaper? It's shame about Ableton as I was considering to try it out sooner or later.

I usually do that with one instance of kontakt multi, assigning different MIDI channels, each with its own track (Ableton or Reaper). I also did it with SampleTank 2 (seen above) and Miroslav Philarmonik (same engine of st2).
If well programmed also the vst you mentioned should work in similar way.

I heard that is not advisable using only one instance of kontakt, but opening 8+ times kontakt instead of 1 only I guess it becomes heavier, at least in memory management.

Problem in Ableton: if you have sidechains it won't allow freezing. Reaper instead allows that.

Freeze. Use larger buffer size. But buying a modern and up to date computer would be the biggest investment.

I think the video it's about a synth designed to be polyphonic. You can't do that with plugins that emulates a single "analog" instrument, at least it wouldn't be worth it.

The sidechain/freeze problems in Ableton are finally going to be fixed in the upcoming update (currently beta).
