Hi guys, I was trying to replicate this gated snare sound with different techniques but no success. Its like a gated echo or something close with pitch idk.

Can you help me to replicate exactly the same effect please?
I know it is a tr 909 snare, I looped the drum sequence.

Reverb on send. Compressor sidechain. Have the snare be the sidechain trigger for the compressor. Ratio and treshold to the max. Control reverb with release on the compressor. You will have a very loud reverb on the last snare (when loop stops), either use fader of the send. Or export the FX channel as audio only (the wet signal) and layer, this gives you super precise control. Good luck. Check you tube also.

Reverb on send. LFOTool after reverb. Play with lfotool or volume shaper or something similar and you can do more than this.

ducked reverb (i think it is a medium hall one, but i'm not sure) on a send... or something easier can be a reverb from the denise audio bundle (they include a ducking section where you can set the amount... you look for it)

Wow, you guys have complicated suggestions. I normally use a short reverb (plate, ambience, room) as send and squash it with a clipper. Adjust reverb (length and predelay, maybe even ER/Tail balance) and clipper to taste and that's it.

get Arts Acoustic Reverb, calc the gap for your BPM, for example if its 130, then its 60/130 \approx 0.461 (secs) and then shape the Reverb shape. Can be be done very good in AAR.

AAR preset, Ableton 11.0 project and rendered audio included.

I find this method better than the GATE FX method mentioned above.

Any crappy room reverb with a lot of predelay (for that single "slap back reverb/echo).

Edit: Is this an Enigma-ish drum loop or emulation of Engima drums? Hmm.
Edit 2: Damn, I'm good. Or...my memory is good. (it's still a pretty crappy room reverb with predelay). Lol:

Actual with Ableton Reverb i couldnt achieve a good gated reverb FX sound, the predelay was to short and it had no good control over decay and attack.

Thx for help. Well I tried your recommendation first and this is the result
    https://voca.ro/1e2wq961k36I

It is close but not identical and thats why I like it just a little bit, I think the snare isnt 909 only, maybe it is a stack or layer of 2 snares or rimshots idk, what do you think about my snare? what can I do to get closer?

I guess this needs more AAR tweaking, remember, ive done this lil project in a bit over 2 mins, the packing took longer.
I think you can get there with 30 mins more tweaking to find the sweet spot. It sounds like the gate reverb fills gaps in between the drums and to nail this right, something like volumeshaper or LFOTool oscillicope view could help.

I like your snare what 909 pack are you using? My 909 snare I'm trying sucks ahha.
Has the original you posted snare got a flange on it? The first hit sounds diff from the 2nd one, also sounds shorter and then next snare is longer?

could be they have automated the decay of the snare? I saw this often with claps in trance music.

I dont get it, you mean that gate reverb is synced? I will play with those tools

Hope you continue making the mini project you uploaded, to clarify this please.

No, its just to the waveform visual and be able to place the gate reverb of the snare better in the whole loop.

you just shorten the decay of your snare every 2nd hit, it adds variety and is super easy to achieve.

Ok that's enough of that. I just snuck a white noise generator with 100% reverb behind the snare at diff lengths some flange. I thought it was Enigma.

My snare comes from the akai s3000 sound library vol1 "SD ambi" Now I am sure its not pure 909 tweaked snare sound as everybody said before everywhere

Exactly, and the kick also has the gate reverb effect but I already did it well. Im trying a lot of effects I will try what you did too.

Yea I put it on the kick too. I also added a hall reverb. The original you posted is really wide around 160hz so I used Ozone imager for that as well.
