Hi, hope you guys won't mind helping me with this. I'm trying to re-create this kind of stuttering choppy lo-fi effect on my piano loops but I don't really know how. I've tried using RC-20 + Grossbeat but it just doesn't sound like this. I'm thinking I'm not using the right plugins or cutting with the right technique. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Try a gate vst or transient vst that cuts the release

create a random generator that route to dropping the volume to 0.
    fine tune from there

The technique of your lofi chords to come into play as well.
You'll wanna chop between the open chords and the little riffs in between—it sounds like a 1/8 chop?

    I'll provide two examples.

I initially thought a gate, like Sonible Smartgate; might be a way to get the choppy aspect, but it sounds like there are a few notes re-triggered. Also, you might be able to get a similar effect by using some creative settings with a nice delay plugin. Maybe it is a combination of plugins to get the entire effect, but you could also do most, if not all of it; with Devious Machines Infiltrator.

If the creator of the beat is giving it away for free on youtube anyway; he'd probably tell you if you asked.

Thank for the feedback and suggestions. Much appreciated! After reading all the comments, it gave me an idea. I think I'm going to try and load my piano loop into something like Serato Sample and see what random chops they give and play around with the chop release since their cuts aren't exact and create better realism + edit the magnetic drop out flutter effect in RC-20 to see what that does to the sound.

Very true about the re-triggered effect now that you mentioned it. Good point about the beat, can't believe I didn't think to ask the beatmaker, though I suspect this might be a pre-made loop from splice.
