How would one make those weird stutter, filter like future bass chords from the second drop of Supernatural? I've tried messing around with lfo tool and a filter but cant seem to get the automation exactly right.

I think that's relatively easy to program.

    Method 1: Inside the Synth
    • Lay down the basic chords of the Break Down on the Grid
    • Before the actual downbeat you just put the same chords in 1/32nd triplets (or something else really short), so it sounds stuttery. (Amp Envelope needs to be at fast attack, fast release)
    • Then you change the volocity for each event from low to high so it sounds like a fade in. (Synth has to be set to react to velocity)
    • The Last thing would be to assign an envelope to a Highpass Filter (listen to 3:33) which is fully opened at the end of the stutters.
Method 2: Sample Chords, chop, program
Just bounce the main chords as audio, keep the attack of the samples and just program them in. Throw a filter envelope on top of it and I think you're done.

If you use ableton you can use the auto pan to do these types of stutters. To do that slowdown one set it up like this and automate the power and the rate.

For the other stutters you want to click the little note symbol underneath the Hz button so it syncs to the songs bpm.
Sometimes if Im bussing my sounds to a return for fx I have to copy this with the automation to the reverbs to keep it clean and tight.

I did it like this here also automating an autofilter and the ezwashout device too all together for the fx and filter sweep on the stacked saw chord sound. Its just for the stab before the drop but you get the point. Similar but my filter curve is lopass

But I actually drew in the stutter/volume automation by hand for everything else in this track. Why I dont like to do it in the synths is because when you start stacking them and want to change something it becomes a nightmare if you have a stack of 5 layers
