Found this one today, and it might be a solution for a lot of us if we´re working with field recordings.

    Here we go:

Ever wanted to make your own wind shield for just a few quid? This is a simple low budget way of protecting your microphone from awful wind noise.

Seems to be loads of money to be saved after a few hours of funny creative work

I have the wind screen crack by R2R. OOPS - I shouldn't have mentioned that here; pardon me.

    Does it block farts?

    Picture this event:

    *Recording in studio*

    - Ok, it's done.
    - I'm sorry but I got over-excited and I think I let a slight fart slip away.
    - ... Did the mic capture it?
    - *goes through recording* YES, IT DID.
    - Damn, can we have another go?
    - BUT THIS was THE PERFECT take.
    - Come on, man. It's a natural process.
    - NO, the natural process is to hold it in when recording!

Then again, farts do have "body" and can be too "hard hitting" to be blocked properly.

Btw, who is this principal that will work with microphones? I'd like to meet the guy.

I have always molded a wire coat hanger into a nice shape, stretched a nylon stocking over it, and attached to the mic stand.

I have a good friend who actually uses different stockings depending on the style of the vocalist... "Oh, so this guy growls abd does high pitch black metal stuff... Let's use this nylon, double strength 50% cotton stocking".

I always wonder if he's just pulling my leg. Though his recordings sound awesome.

    Ditto

and for a shock mount i stretched a web of rubber bands inside a short piece of 100mm pvc plumbing pipe

EDIT: just realised this thread was about wind sick not a pop filter which is what i use the coathanger and stocking for

That's how they make those Audio-Technica shockmounts, by the way!
