So, I just got the vengeance sample pack collection that some forum members recommended. My question is how do I install this thing? Keep in mind, I never used a DAW before. The way I made music was notate it with Finale 2012 and record the playback in VST. Thanks in advance.

 

They're sample packs and consist of files with a wav extension. There's no installation necessary unless it comes with VST presets and those you would have to install into the specific VST plug-in that it's for. You just need to use a sampler such as Battery 4, Geist or Kontakt and load the samples you want to different keys or map them to the application's pads. We have some good tutorials on AudioZ to learn some of these sampling software packages and they will cover all this information in depth.

 

Thanks, would getting cubase or pro tools provide the sampler. Also, what is Kontakt the sampler. I thought Kontakt made a lot of different VST, so how do I know which one to get? Is it possible to upload these samples into Finale 2012 by any chance? I really don't want to compose by sequencing. I want to be able to notate.

I believe it's possible but not that easy for someone new to this. You would have to make soundfonts for it. I would say the easier route would be to use something like Cubase which has a score editor and you can load up a good sampler like Kontakt or even use Groove Agent which comes with this traditional and powerful DAW.

 

Thanks, so I got kontakt 5 but I can't upload these wav exntensions into the libraries. I managed to import it however but the keyboard only plays piano sounds and not the actual sounds of these samples? Can somebody clear things up for me? Thanks in advance.

 

Check the manual or better yet get yourself a Kontakt tutorial so you can learn how to map your samples and perform basic functions. A little investment in time in that will yield high dividends in the future. You basically drag them in from your browser and then check the mapping editor to make any changes.
