Hi people, I hope you are doing great y'all.

No aditional words or long texts, I go straight to the point.
I call for your advice and knowledge to finally get this crispy, punchy and very present Linn LM1 snare sound.

    Example:

A step by step guide about inserting compressor, limiter, saturator or EQs would be useful.

All the answers will be so much appreciated.
Thank you so much in advance.

I'm not sure about the step by step guide,
but you could try adding some reverb to the linndrum snare, i think that would get you pretty close already

    EDIT:
i just heard a Linndrum and i think that's not it. Sounds much closer to a 909 snare.
You should try putting some reverb on a 909 snare

Compress the hell out of it (Baby Audio I Heart NY?), boost high mids, a bit of gated reverb (Nomad Factory 80's Spaces?). Not an expert on drum machines, so I'll gladly leave that to the other forum members.

I searched for the .FLAC lossless album to sample it in maximum quality, but no luck. Only clipped MP3s. I don't like MP3.

That sounds a LOT like a snare sample from one of the big console samplers like AKAI, Fairlight or EMU. Possibly with a little wave shaping involved and definitely reverb added.

Try "SNARE EREC.WAV" from CD-1 of the AKAI S3000 Library. You might wave shape it a bit in Halion and get the right octave and fatness. Should be ripe right out of the box though...

TR 505 or TR 707 should get you pretty close.

Ok sorry i was confusing the linndrum and the LM-1.
This could definitely be a LM-1 sample.
The guys said good tips on how to get there, lots of compression, reverb, and pitching up too will be probably needed.
alternatively you could use other snares like the ones metioned

I'll take a look. I'm going to download the sample CD. I know where to instantly get it. Won't be a problem.

It seems an LM-1 snare to me: high mids cranked up + reverb as it has already been said

If you get 'Aly James VPROM' and the sound bank 'Legendary Banks for Aly James VPROM' this snare should be under 'Linndrum LM-2' program.
I can upload the preview. Maybe needs a tiny bit of a snappier transient, some body, and of course reverb.

I could be wrong, seeing as everyone is talking about it coming from the Linn Drum, but that song... I'm sure I have heard that entire drum kit, and even pattern from a preset on the Alesis SR-18 Drum Machine.

Mostly an issue of finding the right sample, tuning it, applying compression and finding the right reverb.

I think that you're confused, that's not a LM-1 or 2... is a Oberheim DMX. Actually it's across all the Tango album.

At first I made the comment saying it was a DMX, then I relistened to it (late night with speakers only) and it didn't convince me and I edited it. Listening to it now at normal levels it definetely has that DMX sound (the whole kit)

Probably a gated or non-lin reverb. It seems to have an instant impact, but feels quite far away which is confusing me. In isolation you can hear it stop abruptly, so a gate or non-lin for that... It also feels a bit phasey, so layers for that. Probably compressed and dry signal together. If you add the instant reverb as well with no 'pre' it would likely add the feel of a third layer. You could add another comp layer to fatten it up further. The NYC would add some nice punch. Use a Distressor/Arouser type, plus a 76 and try adding something unexpected like a 2A/3A. I think the 160 will add more punch too, but you'd have to be conservative about how much you add of each until you get all the attributes you are after... But don't try to copy it identical. Get creative and make it your own thing.
