How to get intense, soulful strings? Maybe a sample library recommendation?

All the orchestral vsts and sample libraries that I've tried sound too classical, like Spitfire (unless there's a way to program the strings to sound more intense that I don't know about)

    Looking for something like this:

How to get that string sound with the extra oompf?
    Any sample library recommendations?

Orchestral Tools Strings for example with close micing and big room or chamber reverb.
It's not about the string library itself.

Sounds like you'll have to record real instruments playing a real song together on real old gear to achieve that sound ;)

Despite not knowing which ones to recommend I'm sure there're some string library more fitting for that than a full-blown orchestral one.

Yes. And also write an intense, soulful string arrangement before.

Nice strings! Adding OTT, or a transient designer, automation, could help with the oompf part.

Wow, thanks for the share, classic gem. Those are some raw instruments the guitar backing the snare is fire, something's missing in todays music.

Session Strings Pro has this 60s/70s mid-tone sound.
Has two seating arrangements, one is called M-Town. That would be the one to use of the two.

From what I'm hearing, it seems to be a smaller string section. Maybe not a chamber ensemble, but not something full size either. Spitfire Studio Strings is such a library with lesser number of players.
Also try following the suggestions for processing, as posted by the other members.

    Smaller than what?
It has 30 players. That's more than in this recording.
SSP sections have 11 players. It was made for this! And it sounds more like the vid straight off the bat than any SF lib.

Or up until then, when the the ouchy drums come in!
Thought you wanted the soul sound, not a classical sound. :dunno:

Smaller than a full size orchestral string section.

    Understood. Good recommendation.

    I see now. Yes, definitely.
One plus for Spitfire is that they often have some 'realness' in certain articulations, allowing for the human-ness to come out i.e. 'error'!
Slight detuned notes, chair noises, etc. I think that would lend well to the soul side.
And I think your recommendation was good in that out of all the SF libs, this is an easier starting point sound wise.
I just listened again to the vid, and I was amazed how verby the strings were! And of course that correlates with the SF ambience...
But there's definition through closeness that isn't found in any SF lib except perhaps the Studio Strings.
I think it's that breathy bow sound that cuts through in the soul vid.
SSP has control over bow noise.
