I would like some advice as to how to get a well known (ish) singer to work with me on my track. What I mean by this is how do you go about it, initially contacting them etc?

At this point I am still in the process of forming the track, but will soon ready to lay down the vocals.

try booking management or label the artist is signed to

 

the cheapest way:

• you sing the part that the singer should do, trying to imitate his/her style as much as possible.

• replace your voice with her his/her via RVC model AI

is really easy! you just get in contact with the booking agency, say you have a song and wanna hire them. if they like your song you're done!

i saw on instagram the pricing of some artists.
if youre looking for someone like jay-z, or drake, it probably won't cost you less than a million dollars.
if you're looking for a lesser known artist, than a few hundred thousand should be enough!!

 

Unfortunately, it seems you don't know what you're on about...If I am using the artists voice....I may end up that I owe them money.

This song is going to be released on streaming platforms etc, I want to avoid any legal issues

If you asked the question, it's quite clear that you have little knowledge of the music business, you probably don't have a music label that supports you otherwise you would have asked your manager. That said, I have a strong suspicion that you have no budget to support your project. My friend, you don't have many chances left other than using AI, I repeat that using the models of a voice does not violate copyright, get informed

 

I'me done with you, consider this...I DON'T WANT TO USE AI!...not everything nowadays revolves around AI, not only that. you said sing as best you can and then use Ai.....the song I am working on I can't hit those notes so it pointless using AI. I'll get someone from my local community to work with who actually wants the chance to put their vocals on a track...at least it'll be 100% more human than any AI around

 

Well yes, the old school solution is to hire a non-famous singer who sounds similar to what you had in mind. The fiverr website can help you with this and the prices are affordable

At least in my country it's just a bit of a random thing. You work on something, meet the right people or go to the right places and maybe one of them will hook you up with a known artist, or hell, maybe you'll just stumble upon them for no reason. Either way you'll have to be moving around in the industry for a while.

Now, since you're talking about a "well known singer" i assume this has more to do with exposure and recognition than actual singing skills? If so you might try contacting an experienced producer instead, they are the ones with the contacts and the whole "i know a guy who knows a guy" thing.

Honestly i'd say Fiverr is a good option there, because you can contact the producer and ask if they can do something to help you on that aspect before even paying, plus they'll help you on whatever else you need along the way if you hire them. Of course you'll have to choose the right one but that's what reviews and demos are for.

 

a lot of the advice here is really bad lol.

first of all most top end professional artists are incredibly difficult to get in touch with and thats by design. simply reaching out to a booking agency or a manager isnt as easy as ppl here are making it sound. its difficult, for a reason. secondly, most well-known artists are signed to labels and it would involve the actual label clearing whatever song you work on and if the label doesnt feel that its benefitial for the artist, they will not clear that song(which means you wont be able to release it with their voice on it). everything that they do is marketing. thirdly, you'd need that budget to be quite good as you're using them to market your song, and you, and they are just going to charge you a lot for the feature because they simply dont think they'll get returns on the back end....because you likely wont unless you have a marketing budget. if the song is that good and has as much potential as you think it is, find a really good independent artist, pay them work for hire, and sink all of that money into the marketing of the actual song. it works out for you much more favorably in the long run.

Honestly, no..I'm not bothered about exposure. If it brings money in, great...if not...so what....I want the singer for her singing style and nothing else.

 

Lately (maybe 1 year ago) there was a lot of talk about Alltta - Savages featuring an AI voice model of Jay-Z (the result is truly astonishing). Listen to this song and let's see if you still think that the AI option is still piss poor:

Note: in 1 year the AI has improved significantly and the results are even better

It's not that AI is a bad idea musically, it's that it's a bad idea legally in this situation. Right, you can't copyright a voice, but there are laws other than copyright at play here. It's illegal to steal a famous person's name or likeness, and in the case of singers, their voice is their likeness. Using AI to simulate a famous singer's voice would likely result in a cease and desist letter at best, and a lawsuit at worst.
