What I was talking about (that plus sample?) is a relatively small sample set of a different snare (one shot samples they call them?) to subtly enhance your average recorded drum snare track.
But this is only for hard rock/metal drums.
    Nice thread in general, BTW

Usually, I skip 2 of 3 BD mics and the sample (but don't tell). [IMG]

Other drums are not worth being mixed.

Say what? For a metalhead there's no such thing as "other drums". Period

Is there a utility or plugin in Reaper for doing Replacement/Doubling? Logic has DMD, but also this Legacy guy who generates midi out of transients:

Speedrum from Apisonic Labs is a great option for this too. It lets you layer multiple drum samples on a single pad and modify each layer to blend how you want. It's an amazing plugin for simple drum processing.

Another really nice plugin for Doubling/Replacing is of course UVI Drum Replacer.

On the opposite side of the approach, UN-Layering recorded drums can also be very helpful; if you can grab a one-shot of the hit you want to double up cleanly. https://fuseaudiolabs.de/#/pages/product?id=300867907

DrumsSSX is like RX Music Rebalance, just targeted at Drum use. It does the separation and then has Channel Strip like features.
