Hi all .. I have been trying to find a way to convert a stereo MIDI channel to mono in ableton .. like in Cubase you can drag the left and right pans to centre and it makes it a mono channel I cant seem to find the same sort of option in ableton

I know what you mean --- that's one of those 'little' things about Ableton that I don't like -- the inability to simply create a mono track (Line Instrument/Mic)

Anyway, in the menu on the left in Ableton select 'Live Devices' > 'Audio Effects' > 'Utility' > 'Mono'
Drag and apply this to the track you wish to change to mono - Done (Hope this helps)

There should just be a way to create a mono track by default -- But I haven't found it -- If there is another way to do this someone please enlighten me !

 

Don't know why you think you need a mono audio track.
It's more flexible to do it with the utility plugin.
This plugin was made for this and more stereo options like stereo flip or phase reverse.

In Cubase or other DAW's you have to go into a menu and process the audio to reverse or flip and what ever.
This means waiting and new audio file plus more use of disc space for the new processed audio file.

Not so in Live ! All this is done in real time with a utility plugin.

The utility plugin was made to make it easy and it really does it.

 

Thanks Heaps man .. Utility sorted me out ... Yes I know it is one of those little things that you would want to do but you have to hunt for the way to do it :-S

Whatever, point taken -- Regardless how cool Ableton Live is (and it is indeed cool) -- I still miss this common function

 

and that is how simple it should be ...

 

Utility is also the 'go-to' tool used in Live to control your Trim/Gain per channel (Mic/Line Input) - as there is no Trim/Gain control otherwise
(Arguably, another common component missing from the Ableton default functions)

And, if you export the stems to mix in another host, like REAPER, ableton exports all stems as stereo.

On my REAPER toolbar (RADO/VOX theme) is a custom icon and action for downmix to mono. 1 click and its mono.

I try to make everything i can get away with mono, then create the stereo fields with my verbs, fx, ect.

 

so you downmix all stems that were from ableton ..when you export and mix in reaper..


im new to reaper...thanks for mentioning..this also what i need
but im only using the default skin..
where can i find that option in reaper manually
