Suppose you don't have any extra Ram for kontakt libraries on your computer and want to completely stream all libraries from Disk. How to do that?

Just google kontakt preload buffer size to lower your preload as far as it can go, but it wont go down to zero.

Go into the library's set up using the wrench symbol in the top left corner. Enable the Group Editor and check that all groups have their Source set to "DFD" (direct-from-disk) and not any of the other modes (Sampler, TMPro, ...).

[You can try Edit All Groups to do this in one go]

If it says it can't be done due to purged samples, make sure the library has loaded all of its samples (enable all mic positions, all layers, textures, pads, etc -> Purge -> Reload all samples) and go back to the previous step.

Go into Kontakt's settings, enable Override Instrument's preload size and set it to 6 KiB.

[I have it disabled here because overriding breaks some (very old) libraries.]

Purge all samples. Save your patch as a new NKI under a different name - do not overwrite the original file. Use the new patch in the future.

6 KiB per sample is minimum, so 30 MiB for 5000 samples, plus some additional overhead.

@xorome: wow, thank you because even I can understand this. I use Linux and have sometimes problems loading larger libraries. Maybe this can solve this problem!
