For example I opened old project with 1 plugin loaded in midi track.
In my plugins folder I have different versions of this plugin in vst2 and vst3 format.
How to check is this plugin is vst3 or vst2?
Or maybe I have few vst3 versions in one folder. Which one is used right now?
There should be button "show file in folder" and after clicking on it should open folder and select used file.
But I didn't see something like this.

Is there a method to check what I want?

usual in the plugin you find out which plattform was loaded.

why do you have vst2 and vst3?
i prefer vst2, only if there is vst3, then i will install vst3. Therefore i dont have to deal with different plattforms of plugins.

Old projects. It was vst2 but later developer made vst3 version and there was some updates and new versions.
So for example I have 2 formats and I don't remember which one I used in the project.

yes old projects makes sense. I have been using vst2 for so long that that there was no change at all.

I think you can also rename plugin names to the old name? Atleast this worked for the transition from vst2 x86 --> vst2 x64.

I found that when trying to find which I had was to click on swap button for that vst and it will show in the pane which it is. As ableton shows company named folders for VST3 . Saying that I have a separate folder "VST64" for VST2 and use the Common VST3 default for VST3.I'm in the process of changing over projects from 2 to 3 so found the swap button useful if i missed a conversion

Yeah. It's working. So you can say it is vst3 or vst2. Ableton should make this better but better this than nothing.
    Thanks!

VST3 puts a 'save' button in the top right corner, I think most of the time at least. VST2 puts an extra row and puts that save button there, with a drop down menu for presets... I think this is consisent most of the time but I think I've seen it change sometimes...

Mr Feenix explanation is much better than this.
