I'd be interested in pre built Hackintosh devices. Since the entry level Mac Pro doesn't seem to be worth the hassle at all. If you can save 800$, what's the point?
The "full power" Mac Pros are definitely expensive, and that's where building a Hackintosh makes sense to me.

As long as I remember correctly, there also were Hackintosh devices comparable to the power of a new iMac for about 900$. I mean that's like saving 1300$.
Makes total sense. Can anybody confirm that?

The pre-built Macs are just as much a rip off as the real thing! Why would anyone pay someone else to build a fake mac at extortionate prices? Maybe if you are rich, but then you would just buy a Mac!

Building a decent music PC can be done for about $800, then all you have to do is set up the Hackintosh software. I know it's a bit more involved than that, bit it's not that difficult. It's worth doing it yourself instead of paying people over the odds to do it for you.

This is all I have to say about mac's being overpriced………………. what a load of shite!!

    http://www.extremetech.com/computing/173695-apples-new-overpriced-10000-mac-pro-is-2000-cheaper-than-the-equivalent-windows-pc

Mac users prefer Mac and PC users prefer PC. simple

It is true though that around 98% of professionals from every industry around the world use macs, and a hell of a lot of music professionals use them too.

The way they handle and process data, and use of ram is far superior to that of how windows does it

I build my own haks since Mac go to intel, I love it, and Logic that I use since notator time.
Thins like no virus, no defrag or instant search a file over my 20gb system is priceless for shure!
Basically you need a Gigabyte mobo and nowadays have drivers for almost anything
Your link have a comparison between a mac and a build. At this point you must decide if you wanna an i7 ou built a xeon setup that can use multiple chips. Of course you can make something better that the new mac pro, but it have costs.
If you say how much you have to spend, the tasks that you wanna perform, the parts that you have etc.. we can help more. :mates:
I think I vasist every major site, and you must star here
    kakewalk
For me there is not more easely than there.
I gave a link with their sugestions buulds in many flavors.
In the beganing you could be a little lost but it will be a breeze to work with logic X!
If you wanna discuss with me in the skype send me a PM, you will never want to go back to windows (I have it emulated), but its for something.
You probably see a lot of figth here between mac-pc, its really stupid because anyone can have OSX and windows in the same machine...
One thing you have to decide is the interface that you will use and I sugest anything from RME, I never ha any problem with them.
So tell me more, we are waiting!

I've "done it" too, and after using both originals and clones, I wouldn't say that a hackintosh is always the best choice.
Given that you want to switch to MacOSX (and I can totally confirm ovalf's statement "in the beginning you could be a little lost..."), prepare to spend some quality time and patience until the system will run as expected. I've done it on both Dell and Lenovo laptops and it took me ages to get a halfway properly working system. On laptops you'll find that it's a rare coincidence that everything works as smoothly as on a macbook pro or macbook air. Example: Using audio interfaces after waking up from standby mode. :snuffy:
But laptops are where I want to have OSX on!

Also I don't really get why I would even think about building one of the kakewalks when I can get a Mac Mini with an i7, 1TB HDD and 4GB RAM which is super small, energy efficient and practically silent except when under heavy load. They're about in the same price range (!), and you can spend the learning and building time for making music instead.

These Hackintosh are basically some regular PC hardware where you install OSX for Intel instead of Windows/Linux, am I correct?

no it is not true, unless you are calling iphones and ipods "macs". speaking as someone who has made living in corporate information technology, i can respectfully say that you are misinformed.

Do you mean that OSX for Intel will not run on any PC hardware/motherboard? Any compatibility issue?

Almost all but it can be tricky.
You can run even AMD. but it will be easely with gigabyte and intel mobos because macs have similiar components, so you do not neeed special drivers.
Also there are many packages in the internet, but more easy than gigabyte or Intel do not exist in my humble opinion.

    Thanks for the clarification.

So I believe that the trickiest part is to find a (not too old) copy of OSX?
I looked in a few torrent sites but with no luck, anyone can advise?

Man the last OSX Mavericks is FREE, just download it (10.9.X).
The trickiest thing is finding all the right drivers for your mobo and video, and offcourse find a intall way that suits to you
