No, seriously, if I was in the (un?)lucky position to be forced to work with 150+ tracks arrangements, I would most likely have to use Vienna Ensemble Pro, but for my less challenging requirements I'm fine with sketching on tablets and refining everything on good DAWs on the laptop.

I'm also using another laptop as a "ROMpler" with various Kontakt and Spectrasonics libs however.

In my studio in Colom we use 3 for audio & data management, my studio in amsterdam we use 3 for audio and 2 more for data management and some other tasks. Then I have 2 macbook pro's which I carry everywhere. Most of the music gets made on the macbooks, all the other work, mixing & mastering, is done on the boxes mentioned above. I have two legacy Mac's a dual G4 and a G5 on which I run some legacy apps like rebirth. But they're noisy so they're offline most of the time. But from time to time I fire 'm up and have some fun.

2 desktops and a laptop. There are also 2 iPads, a galaxy tab and a HTC M8 for control purposes except the iPads which run studiomux and are used as send/return FX. I have another crappy DELL E6400 which is basically a dedicated spectrometer over ReaStream.

1 desktop for recording instruments, mixing, mastering, etc. 1 laptop for recording drums (just for the comfort of having it right next to me while playing).

I am underpowered by today's standards for sure. I have a Mac Mini core i5 with 16 Gigs RAM as my main computer and a MacBook Pro, same processor and RAM. I never get to have over 40 tracks. As projects start to grow, I sum instrumental sections in stereo and bus them accordingly. I've also learned to be happy with bouncing and freezing virtual instruments and treat them as audio as fast as I can. I all honesty, I haven't found the need to increase my computer power. However, the latest incarnations of Photoshop are forcing me to think in that direction sooner than later.

I also use more than 3 pcs, but not only for making music.
1x pc for Gaming, 1x pc for Developing/Analyzing/Reverse Engineering, 1x pc-test system, 1x pc for Office and so forth.
4x pcs as Renderfarm and 1x pc as "main" Workstation for very fast 3D Rendering (not realtime, but nearly realtime).
4x pcs for makig music (1x Mastering Station, 2x wired pcs for DJ "Traktor and Co.", 1x Workhorse with cards, plugins).
Wired with different cards, cables, midi an other hardware.

No, im not rich! As musician and it/electronic lover i build every year some new pcs for fun. Not only high-end systems!
It is just a hobby. I also have build a special pc for lasershows (ILDA). Of course also a small system for cameras (house/garden defense) and watering (flowers^^). And one system (netbook) for the IT/phone management.
Only the Workstation, the Renderfarms and the "Music" PC are "new" and "high end systems".
Office and Game pcs are older. So, i´m not rich. Only the workstation, the music pc and the workstations are "hot".
Sometimes i play "new" games with the Workstation ;-)

    Well, i´m creative and a musician freak^^

    I love it.

Out of 8 PCs, 4 of them, all equipped with i7 quad are part of offloading computing cluster.
It's processing power isn't stellar, but far outperform my needs fo audio/video/misc processing.
16x2.2GHz standard or up to 16x3.2GHz and 80GB of RAM DDR3-1600. It's also very power efficient, the whole cluster runs below 150W (240W at max power) with all PCs engaged .
It's modular, meaning it's possible to remotely turn on only 1 or 2 (via WOL)when needed, leading to even lower power consumption.

Something's not right. Kaby Lake isn't out yet. Skylake is 6th generation.

Oh, and one more laptop, prolly the best of all
Thinkpad 570E with 450MHz PIII and 320MB RAM (for $5).
Runs Impulse Tracker and OpenMPT perfectly

Then I wish you luck. You got one of Engineering Samples with low-revision number. Those are bound to perform poorly, are prone to stability issues (VID-fluctuations) and have high PVS binning no. which means they run much hotter than QS or final revisions.
Also Win7 isn't supported on 7th gen platform
