Hi, I dont want to start a daw war or anything. I am really interested to move from cubase to studio one. Studio one seems to fit my workflow a little better and I miss a sampler like sample one in cubase. Last time I tried studio one, I think it was 4.0, I wasnt so impressed with the cpu usage. So how are things now? If someone has experience in both daws, I would definitely like to read your opinion.

 

Mediocre at best. There are a lot of things that I like from Studio One, cpu consumption isn't one of them. For that, Reaper is probably king.

Reaper and Mixcraft are both very CPU friendly. Cakewalk is probably the next best. S1 is more multi-core capable than it used to be, as of v3.5x, but it could still be better.

Wondering if there is a significant difference in CPU usage between S1 PC version and Mac version,
so on which platform S1 performs better when the same S1 project is loaded.

 

I'm also interested. I haven't pushed hard yet Studio One (Windows) when it comes to CPU. But the loading times, GUI, small projects work very fast.
From what I've gathered over the years the Mac versions use to work worse than Windows ones.

 

if cpu is limiting, consider reaper cuz only the sky is the limit..

Exactly to my knowledge too, same goes for Cubase and Nuendo.
Hoping the difference would be made smaller in S1 V5.
