    Try some highpassed synth, and add a tad stereo chorus and some tremolo (i.e, sine LFO on volume/amp).
    Play around with waveforms, or even different synthesis (subtractive, additive, FM, ROMpler, hybrid, etc).

    try reversing a crash or cymbal and pitching it down an octave. EQ too.
