Hi, everyone. I got two Softube Wasted Spaces on my iLok account. Due to the iLok fee, I can't really give it away (I'd have to pay $25 fee). Is the only option to give it away if someone buys 2 products on my iLok and just send it to them too?

I haven't transferred a Softube plugin before, but I just looked at it in iLok manager. Are you sure you have to pay the $25, and not the user you transfer it to? Sometimes giving away the entire account isn't a good option, and sometimes the plugin might be worth the 25$ to the user you are transferring it to. The way the menu reads makes it sound like they have to pay.

I've sold a Softube plugin before, I'm the one who has to pay for the transfer. So the other party would have to send me the money for it.

that's just objectively false in every way.

iLok is inconvenient bloat, but so many people are using products that have it and are producing great work so what you're saying is wrong

oeksound, Slate Digital, UVI, iZotope, Zynaptiq users wouldn't agree with you, ya know? But eh, that's entirely your opinion although ain't the best or most popular

Truth is there's few plugins you really "need" in the first place nor do they really help your workflow. The amount you need that ALSO require iLok shrinks down even further, and in my opinion, it's 0. Only once you truly realize how little innovation has occurred in audio DSP will you reject ALL intrusive copy protection outright as the few useful plugins from DSP devs who make plugins out of passion rather than profit are superior and don't do this bullshit. I scoff at devs who believe their mediocre plugins are worth intrusive protection in the first place when Voxengo, TDR & Klanghelm use basic or no copy protection yet have innovative algorithms & great sonic quality. airwindows is free even.

This isn't to say there aren't good plugins with iLok, what I'm saying is the other choices you have are less of a hassle and likely better. It's easy to make a "good" audio plugin, as in it does what it claims, but that's no reason to buy yet another $200* (*always on sale) iLok protected soft clipper with pasted code from ancient algorithms.
