How can I get rid of noise when connecting hardware to a computer via usb?

    Hello everyone,

This issue (noise) only appears when I plug my minilogue into the usb.
Have already tried different ports, and have also unplugged the computer from socket without results.
The noise only goes away when I disconnect the minilogue from the USB port.

Has anyone experienced this AND found a solution?

(I really need to have it connected through USB, because I am using my daw as a sequencer and fx processor for the mini)

    Thank you in advance!

The noise sample (I have increased some dbs to make it more noticeable, and I assume it will be very annoying in a live show through power amps):

Total stab in the dark but ive had noize like that in the past and its my mains (not mains hum) and ive had to plug gear into a completely different mains ring ??? or theres something else in the circuit that only one devise picks up , switch everything off in the house and plug in only the necessary ???

This "noise" you're talking about is not a noise problem but a midi bugg.
But it's not easy to find a solution with your informations.

If I understand, your Minilogue is midi connected only via usb to your computer?
And you haven't anything plugged into your Minilogue's I/O midi ports?
    And what's your DAW?

If I were you I would check the midi options and the configuration of your external intruments in your DAW.

Also check your Minilogue's midi options.I have the Minilogue XD but not the Minilogue,so I don't know if they have the same options.
When you plug it in USB,have you tried to select "USB" instead of "MIDI+USB"?

Also what is your OS,MAC or Windows?
Have you the latest drivers for your Minilogue?

Yes, it's connected only via usb (I've tried to use the minilogue midi connections to the midi in my audio interface (M-audio m-track) but had no luck (no usb = no midi transmission). And I've also checked the midi options as well as what you just suggested.

My daw is Ableton Lite, x86, but I think I've discovered what the problem is:

Thank you very much for your feedbacks! Just don't know if I will be able to find this usb isolator thingie in my country!

I was thinking I could avoid the usb minilogue connection using its midi connections to my interface, but as stated above, no luck. Which is kind of strange (yes, I checked all my midi options in my daw).:dunno::dunno::dunno:

I tried a midi-usb cable I have and was lucky connecting it to my computer (not via interface): no noise, and minilogue transmitted midi ok (in and out to my daw), but the cable was pretty unstable (it disconnected regularly, hanging notes and requiring unplugging and plugging to start working again)

Yeah, I'm not what you would call a lucky guy.

My guess, it's ground noise. Just wrap some adhesive tape (the one used for electrical components isolation) on your usb connector and see if it goes away. See if this helps :)

Gonna buy one and try this week! If it does not solve the problem, gonna try to find that usb filter thing. Thanks once again!

Had the same issue but I would not recommend using isolators if you are going to run high speed transfers like audio with it (Virus TI, Elektron, etc).
A better way around it: use midi cables instead..

I was having some noise recording my guitar with distortion. Then, I just backed half a meter away from the CPU and the noise disappeared. I don't know if that is the case, but it can also be a problem with your cables.

You just need a galvanic usb isolator, not cheap, but will solve the issue

Sounds like a ground loop alright, oscillation might be from a HUI, maybe? If so, shielding the USB cable is not going to help, galvanic isolation maybe. Keeping Minilogue connected, unplug all you have from inputs on your mixing console and listen for noise to stop (hopefully). Then, by re-inserting one by one until noise sets in, determine if an inadvertent loop is caused by an asymmetrically wired signal source on a balanced (TRS) input.

Tried to contour this issue using midi cables, but it seems my audio interface just isn"t transmiting data to the minilogue if there's no usb connection to the synth.
