Call your DX7 a “Casio VL-Tone VL-1" and then select any bass preset. Your DX7 should be suitably angry.

Philippe Saisse used various keyboards for Al Jarreau, but for that iconic "Pleasure" bass sound (from Jarreau album), he likely used a combination, possibly featuring a Yamaha DX7 for that bright, punchy digital sound, alongside other synths like a Roland D-50 or even an E-mu Emulator for samples, but the exact preset/combo is elusive, though his Yamaha love is clear.
    • Likely Suspects: The DX7 was huge in that era (mid-80s), and its electric piano/bass patches were staples. The D-50 had famous "LA Synthesis" sounds that fit the vibe.
    • Context: Saisse was a Yamaha artist, favoring models like the AN1x, W5, and S90ES later, but in the 80s, he'd use what was cutting-edge, including those Yamaha DX series.
    • The Sound: It's that classic late-80s smooth jazz/R&B synth bass – clean, deep, sometimes with a slight metallic/digital sheen, often layered or using specific presets.
While the specific preset isn't documented, think Yamaha DX7, maybe layered with something else for that full, rich sound.
