Yeah, I've been a Cakewalk/Sonar user since the Windows 95 days. I've tried a few others (Majix, Pro Tools) and just didn't like the workflow. My biggest bitch about Sonar is lack of automation of the effects bypass. I suppose they do that so as not to add artifacts (clicks and pops) to the audio when the effect is engaged/disengaged. Should be the end user's choice about that, though.

@Jaymz, as a Sonar fan, what are the strengths of Cubase in comparison?

You could probably send to a mono reverb, but it would have to be panned to the same place as your audio track (and if you have a lot of mono tracks, this could get cumbersome quickly). Some reverbs, like Altiverb, have L/R balance controls. I believe the way you do this is, insert Altiverb on your mono track as a mono insert, turn off the tail and place your instrument in the stereo field with the balance control. Then, you send to a stereo instance of Altiverb with the pre delay turned off. I know DP has a send balance control, where you can supposedly pan your sends to copy your actual pan control, but I've never heard the difference or seen any significant change in the meters. Most reverb plugs may not even be capable of taking a panned stereo signal.

If you think of it like a real mixing board, though, it's always mono-in-stereo-out for sends (or even mono-in-mono-out), which is why most DAWs are set up that way, and why most reverb plugs take a mono signal and throw it into a stereo matrix without regard to your actual panning assignment. You could also try mimicking a real mixing board by setting up two identical mono reverbs auxiliary tracks, one panned hard left, one panned hard right and sending more to one side or the other until you achieve the right balance.

True, that's the reason real men switch their plugins to generic GUI, so they have to work harder.

Seriously, I know that feature from Cubase, is it available in other DAWs, too?

Thanks bro I updated to Win 7 SP1 and now all of the Waves plugins and miscellaneous AudioUTOPiA and R2R releases that didn't work are working perfectly. Big thank you to you there my friend.

I've been using ARP on some acoustic songs and I absolutely love it on acoustic guitars and other acoustic instruments. I haven't really clicked with it on vocals yet. I really like some of what I've heard others do with it on vocals so I'm sure its just user error.

I usually just load up the vocal plate preset and move on from there. Also, if you are using it as a send, putting an eq in front of it and a compressor behind it change the overall tonality of it quite nicely.
