That's a crazy 'deal'. One I can't understand is PluginBoutique selling the UAD 76 Compressors for £39 until tomorrow, but on the UAD site its £89... How is it cheaper through a reseller that must be taking a cut? I've been close to biting that one but I can't see that I need it... If it was PA prices of $4 I probably would though :)

Companies hide prices or inflate artificially to avoid competing with the online companies they sell through. That, sadly, is not customer friendly as much as partner agreeable.

I prefer (legally) free plugins because i don't have to be careful about (paid) future compatibility

It's not just music software and is becoming more prevalent across the board. I just move on and won't give them my business if they play this silly game.

Human mistake, hiding a price and compattibility? Please
I would believe in human mistake if the price were half it should be, not if it's hidden.

I think of this mostly as the opposite; aside from the stock DAW plugins. With old "free" plugins, the developer will move on to other things, let their website go down, etc. and then you are stuck trying to track down a copy of the old plugin. When you go to look in all the usual places, you will not find them. I'd just replace with something else, but some people make a big deal about it.

It's a psychological tactic. It's like when you take something from the shelf in a store only to find out at the register that it's not priced properly or it's for bundles or even the period of the promo price has expired but someone forgot to remove the label, you're more likely to think "well, I'm already here, I might as well buy it and be sure to know next time" and buy it or just shame buy because everybody is looking. When they know their product is expensive and you can see the price while thinking, there's a bigger chance to pass on it right then and there. Now, if you have initial interest to go to the site, then made your mind to it and make it to the basket and then see the price, the chance to go through with the purchase is bigger.

but with old "paid" plugins, developer can discontinue licensing system, rendering plugin completely unable to activate and use

I think it may not be a scam, but it still is a dirty tactic. They try to convince you that you want their product without telling you what you will have to pay for it. So once you decide that you want it, you will be ready to pay more, if it is not too much more than you anticipated, whereas if they told you right away, you would decide on not buying it.

It have exactly the opposite effect on me.
I could let everything I took from the shelves right there and get out of that market. I don't mind about people looking or what ever...

I'm the same... If more people held up the queue and people left the store because they were tired of waiting, and that cost them profit, they might stop doing it... But they don't stop, so it must be a successful tactic... I think its stealing personally.

One thing that stands out to me considering Clone's comments is that these online 'tricks' feel very short term as a business, like these plugins might not be supported for very long if they're being sneaky. You think about Companies like RME whose drivers have been notoriously solid for along time. They aren't hyping that stuff because it doesn't need the hype if its that solid. They haven't dropped it like a broken toy, they kept these things going...

So by contrast I'm seeing these sneaky sales as the opposite and although it seems like we're only guessing about why they act this way it makes the product look shaky.

I mean, it's really just one click away from the product page. In my opinion we're being a tiny bit drama queen here. But I do understand that it is good business to advertise the price as clearly as possible. For the compatibility, it seems like the other product have a little logo that shows the compatibility per OS at the bottom of each page. I had that issue when I was searching for a A/B type of plugin and found their product. I then opened a ticket after buying ListenHub and they apologies and rectified the issue. All other product seems to have the OS written at the bottom of the page. The only one that seems to be missing is the new Voca.

Everyone knows, that when it comes to boutique software plugins and rare French wines, if you really have to ask how much it costs, then you surely cant afford to buy it.

Only the best for you, Martel, and even at €16,000 a bottle, you're worth it. Cheers!
