Just looking for some advice regarding drums vsts from those that have experience with them.

Until now I have been using Addictive Drums 2 Metal and Black Velvet, but after a year or 2 away from doing anything music-wise they suddenly don't sound as real to me. I have looked at the Eat West Pro Drummer and MOR kits I also have and not a fan.
I know I can augment the sounds with samples but want a great raw sounding kit that I can apply my own processing to, but want one with the as many articulations as I can get. I cannot afford Superior Drummer, GGD although really good have too much processing I think,
BFD3 (£36.99) seems to have strength in the add-ons - not a fan of the Core kits.
    With it being the BF sales I have 4 options, but a couple don't have demos for me to play with, hence turning to the hive-mind. The main style I will be doing is more prog rock/metal in the vein of Pain of Salvation, Ayreon, Evergrey, A.R.K etc so need something other that balls-out metal. Norrowed down options to the following;

*Addictive Drums 2 - Either use what I already have and augment with Bogren samples (£34.99)...or maybe a different kit (£34.12)? This was my original plan, but then are the cymbals good enough?
*Hertz Drums Mini (£36.99) or Lite+Pack (£66.03) - love that there are articulations for each limb and variations for hits on the skins.
*Extinction Level Event (£41.83)- different high hat articulations which seems unique and new free kit in Jan.
*Krimh Drums (£86.99) - great feature where fast kicks trigger second kickdrum to avoid machinegunning, though stretching my finances a bit.
*NI Studio Drummer (£64.50) - Sound pretty good, 3 kits

Normally I would just demo, but as I say...I can't

    Thanks in advance!

    You could also try MDrummer.
And it is currently 50% off (three days left).
For me it is one of the best I've ever used.

I just checked it out and does sound really good. Unfortunately a bit out of reach on the financial front though :( - Krimh Drums are even pushing it at £86.99 so I can't really go any higher than that. The other option are less than £50.

It looks like the BF Sale only covers expansions or adding a free expansion to the original price. Even EZ is out of my price range.

No I haven't had a look there yet so will do so

Already have it, thanks. I ended up getting another different sounding AD2 kit for $10 and going to blend kit pieces. Basically triggering a kit with another 1 or 2 fully sampled kits. Can actually get a better sound for what I want than any individual kit that way.

*Addictive Drums 2 - too predictable. Superior Drummer, EzDrummer, Addictive Drums... Too much of these in the modern production. It's time to try something new.
*Hertz Drums Mini - Best choice for me. Easy interface. CPU friendly. Good sound. Many extra functions.
*Extinction Level Event - never tried
*Krimh Drums- something really predictable and has limitation of using (only with particular style of music).
*NI Studio Drummer- This one reminds me of AD. Nothing special.

Hertz has a good sound, never heard of that one before. They sound like drums overlayed with one-shot samples to me, pretty machinegun-like but that's how metal drums sound, I guess...

Can't agree about machine gun. Especially if you tried the last pack "Metal Unlimited". I found it pretty flexiable. Just some work with velocities.
And don't forget to change perfomance settings to maximum or at least to average (normal) perfomance. With low perfomance it can be like One Shot. Huge difference.

I guess you could go with something like Ugritone drums if you want something that sounds very unprocessed (and is cheap). They have many libraries that sound quite bad, although most of them are made for recreating old school raw drum mixes like 80's thrash, 90's black metal, early 00's deathcore and so on. Some of them are for more modern tones, but they stilll sound much less polished than what you get with Superior Drummer and Addictive Drums.
