To produce counter melody, the melody must be notated first. Your posted music (if you can call it that) cannot be notated. Counter melody production is a process that requires thinking and calculations. To make a calculation, something must be quantified first as accurately as possible.

 

Gamelan music predates counterpoint by more than 1,000 years.

You mean notation? It has been notated, but it wasn't required since it is based on an oral tradition.

 

By notation, I mean that it should be clear what they are doing. Something that cannot be written cannot be thought about and made calculations on them for the necessary changes.
Music began to grow from the time it became possible to write and think about its different parts.

The Gamelan musicians know exactly what they are doing, as the main parts are split between two different groups.

 

Have you ever heard about a famous and leading composer who could make a piece of wonderful music without writing and just by murmuring?

I don't think so.

 

I have visited Java many times and I've hung out with these Gamelan guys, and even met with some western music scholars who were studying Gamelan at the local university. You seem to be trashing an ancient musical form that you know little about

Are you actually a musician? Have you ever played with anybody else, found a cool progression and built upon that without notating it, eventually turning it into a song? Many many musical traditions are passed on through generations by word of mouth and playing with better, more experienced musicians without the use of notation and much without even writting anything down at all.

 

Gamelan does have some spoken rules and it is quite structured, as were the Sex Pistols, and don't forger music notation is a western construct while music itself is universal ... http://gamelanoxford.org.uk/what-is-gamelan/

Paul McCartney. He hummed the piccolo trumpet solo for David Mason to learn on Penny Lane for example. 1st thing that springs to mind. Yes wrote some unbelievable things without writing down a single note. And don't come back with "that isn't great music" because it damn well is.

 

I wonder this myself... I have been curious.
