I've used SoundSoap with success in the past. What other software is there that analyses a snippet of the noise and then globally removed only that? This is all info for the future . . . when I'm operational. Until then, I am blessed to have KungPaoFist helping me out.

HELP!! I'm asking a lot and offering very little . . . just a big THANK YOU!! But can someone, who might have some free time, skills, and plugins help me restore a few old recordings? They sound terrible in almost every way, but they are very special to me. I don't believe I have the ability at this time. A kind member initially began helping me, but soon after became understandably busy.

It really depends on the type of noise and and how much degradation of the original signal is acceptable in the search for clarity. There are no miracles, just what is possible and what we wish was possible

Waves do a good "noise print" / noise reduction tool (part of Waves complete) - there are several such plugins in the Complete pack.

And then Celemony Capstan for wow and flutter removal (amazing).

 

You let the algorithm listen to a segment of only the background noise, no instruments. A few seconds can be enough. It makes a "noise print" to help later filter out this particular type of noise.

So sorry for the lag Tommyzai!! I'm only now just finishing up that music...

 

I like to use Waves' X-Noise. I will sample and loop a portion of the tape hiss and allow X-Noise to analayse it in "Learn" mode. Once X-Noise has the hiss profile (footprint), I go into "Difference" mode and tune out the noise.

 

I think I found a few areas of isolated noise. Will this help?

Send me a wav or any other lossless you printed to. 44100-192000 Hz, 16-64 bit minimum (24 bit or higher recommended, such as 32 bit float or 32 bit int, 64 bit... ) (send as it is, without any reconversions), i will do what i can for free. I have a lot of experience and skills in editing, restoration, repair. Microscopic work and manual repair mostly=)
