I wondering if anyone can help me identify two synth sounds. The first is in the beginning of Oliver Nelson's remix of Ghost by Ella Henderson.

The second is in the begining of KANT's Never You Mind (Original Mix)

    Thanks a bunch!!

Ableton's Collision can do that (first sound), if you're interested in that malletty sound.

Yup, the sound in the first song is a xylophone. Nicely EQ'd and clean with a bit distortion for warmth, and compression to bring out the attack more and make it sound like it's a pluck almost. Compressor settings: attack time of 10-15ms, release 30ms, ratio 4 or 5:1, and bring the threshold down until you hear that attack of the sound come out, turn the make up gain up and bring the level back up and you should be good to go.

Note: try a marimba here too since it's warmer sounding than a xylophone and maybe you can get an even nicer sound.

As for the sound in the second song that sounds like a piano with aloof of reverb, if you have nexus that's probably one of the presets on there, but any piano sound will do, a lot of reverb, again distortion for warmth and not destruction. Make sure the reverb is low passed and has a long tail and use the reverb as an insert rather than a send.

Use NI FM8 for those sounds..., if it's not acoustic, then it's FM synthesis.
