Mykal, good catch. however, i believe that these threads are a little different, as Monkeystyle wants a budget sound card. *yes*

Monkeystyle, why on earth would you want an external sound card? :(

that depends on your needs :)
usually, people buy soundcard to reduce the latency and to get RCA/SPDIF/etc. extensions.
that's all... as someone said, almost any sound card will do the job if you're a beginner.

so, here's a few names for you:
    http://www.esi-audio.com/products/?m=22
    http://www.emu.com/products/welcome.asp?category=610
you can't go wrong with these.

also, you can always consider M-Audio...

great little product, Firewire, 4in/4 out, chainable up to 4 units
You can find some used ones for very low price on ebay..

For the headphones, I would recommend a Shure SRH-440.
    Unbeatable price-performance relation, IMHO.

I'm not a fan of the cheap KRK monitors. Way too much bass, not enough clarity.
As far as monitors are concerned, I think it is better to spare some money until you can buy a decent pair, instead of buying cheap ones.

I use M Audio fast track Pro and Ultra I have used the pro for playing live and was complimented on the quality of sound on many an occasion but If you want decent converters rather than just an interface then Apogee or something of that calibre but if your just starting out M Audio is more than adequate.

I will post one of my tracks later and you can hear what sort of sound quality you can get.

I have nothing against the presonus propsed here, but otherwise, you have the edirol UA25 (now roland/cakewalk) is definitely a good buy as well....very very stable drivers, built like a tank, decent built-in hardware comp and limiter....a pretty good value for money (drawbacks: only 2 inputs though, but at this price you cant have it all)
