It would be logical to learn an instrument, any instrument.

It also comes with 2 Gb of extra files. With .wav, and .mid files of the projects explained. So 7 in total, like 2 porsche!

If you want to be good and bring something to the table, just keep learning Ableton.. Read the manual and get familiar with the tools. Find your thing. Otherwise just go to youtube tutorials and start churning out beige noise.

When I started the books "Music Theory" and "Music Composition" from Idiot's Guides really helped me out, because they were really easy to read, and not as dry as most other books. You should find the PDFs on google.

And you should buy a 61 key midi-keyboard. Learning piano from the start is a huge overkill in my opinion, if you just want to produce some beats. But basic keyboard playing is really helpful for learning music theory and for composing too, because it's much faster than just using your mouse.

And keep your DAW for now.

a piano is the basis of most midi keyboards. its a piano keyboard, plus a synth.
if you understand the layout of a piano, you understand the layout of any midi keyboard. It doesn't need to be a physical piano, but the model of a piano based on a plugin will teach you intervals and explain why a half step is a half step and a whole step is a whole step, etc. etc.etc...

You can't understand c-2 if you don't know where c-1 is and why. etc, etc, etc.

Yes you're right. The point is, that learning piano is such a broad term. Classical piano training covers so much other stuff that isn't really important for someone who wants to be a hip hop producer. I think learn to play keyboard is much better for persons who just want to use their DAW to produce bangers, or something like that xD

The videos are better than the pdf. Without them you can't get the idea. They are short, and well done. The pdf is just a tinny resume of the content on videos.

One of the problems @dieughdie will find, is the overwelming offer of courses, and ways to learn. Just be sticked to what you begin. Create your own learning path. You will find what you need on your next step, once you end first the last one you begin.

In this pc-producer age that really is not necessary. Not in the basis at least. Learning your daw and the piano roll might be the lowest threshold to at least start.
