I was tired of buying expensive headphones with good sound quality, but cheap plastic hinges. I like a pair I got off ebay for around $100. They are V-Moda crossfade m100. I liked them so much I tried their hi-def earbud model "Octave" for my 9 to 5 listening to flacs.

I have the Audio Technica model. I Like them fine. Make sure you get the straight cable, not coiled. These are all decent phones.

Great stuff. I wasn't immediately blown away by them as I don't think anything is really hyped but it's when you are listening to a song you know inside out and you start hearing sounds that you haven't heard before that you begin to appreciate them. Also the bass is incredibly defined.

Definitely buy the Beyerdynamic DT770 pro 250 ohm next time  .
They are absolutely stunning for the price.
If you have them on for a couple of hours, you won't even notice they are there.
+super neutral sound (excellent for mixing)
    +Bass goes extremely deep
    +Replaceable ear pads
    +Coiled wire
Used by many respected artist and other professionals.
Don't buy the Shure, they suck, trust me I've used them.
Audio Technica hurts after a while because of the pressure on your head.
Sennheiser never been my favorite brand, but you could take a listen to them.

I think the best advice is to go to the store and try these:

    - Beyer DT 770(880/990)
    - Audio Technica ATH-M50
    - AKG K-701
    - Sony MDR-7506
    - Sennheiser HD 280PRO

    * I use a Denon AH-D7000 *

    +1 for ATH-M50's

I've had a pair of black coiled ones for 3 years now and they are still like new. Very good for the studio and on the road plus they are sturdy as a rock.

I thought of buying a pair of 271, but I was a bit worried about "closed headphone" sound. In your opinion, how "open" they sound? :grooves:
