I decided to buy new headphones. My budget is limited, so the headphones shouldn't cost more than 200€.
I want a neutral and clear sound and the headphones should be comfortable, so that you can wear them a few hours. I want to use them for producing and mixing at home.
On my research I found the following three headphones, which fit in my bugdet and also have good feedback:
    Shure SRH840 Reference Studio Headphones
    AudioTechnica ATH-M50
    Sennheiser HD 380 Pro

If anyone have experience with these headphones or know other good headphones please tell me

I have had the same pair of M50's for 5-6 years and they still sound amazing. I take them everywhere and use them all of the time so they are starting to show the wear (leather has flaked off the headband and the ear muffs have started to crack) but this is after 5 years of heavy usage (and admittedly I haven't treated them with the respect they deserve :P). I don't have a lot to reference to but to my ears they sound amazing, everything is so defined and nothing sounds over-hyped (especially true with the lowend, it's extremely defined). I can't comment on the other headphones but my m50's are without a doubt my smartest purchase.

On my headphones there is always more treble volume on the right side. Impossible to have exactly same volume on both ears.

It's the fault when using SENNHEISER headphones.

    @ Dazeon,

In case that your headphones seems to be in perfect state of functioning, check its cable. Maybe one of both sides is slightly damaged by natural wear, or any kind of problem on the cable (e.g. inadvertently walking on its wire with all your weight,... ), therefore leading to some troubles like those that you can find on some very cheap walkman/MP3 players headphones that after some time of usage tends to have unpredictable behaviors of such kind. *yes*

Could it be your sound listening that is distorted by any hearing problem where one of your ears would be less effective than the other, like it may occur with the eyes, that as soon that one has a slight problem (e.g. blurred vision, reduced field of vision,... ), the other tends to compensate for that automatically ? *yes*

Sometimes, it could be wise to make frequent auditory checks, especially if you're a real professional of sound. Even the greatest Sound Engineers who know their listening skills, make them also from time to time (just to be sure !).

The headphone cable is small as a wire.

no way pal, i have sennheiser hd650's and they're perfectly balanced and 9/10 my mixes translate beautifully.. for me there is no better than sennheiser, okay the beyerdynamics dt 770 pro are my fav closed/semi-open headphones. but i don't think you can really go wrong with some decent mid range sennheisers or beyerdynamics... plus the beyerdynamics are about €200 *yes*

And what to do when you know this is true? For now I tend to pan every channel with a high freq sound a little more to the right, because my right ear is noticeably damaged at the high freq spectrum due to excessive use of Ipod earphones..

Hm, so far the AudioTechnica ATH-M50 got the best reputations and they are the cheapest... I think I'll go with them.

I also want to buy new headphones. I've owned a pair of ATH-M40's for years, and although I love the sound, I've always found them too uncomfortable for my BIG ears. I need a pair of HD's that completely cover my ears. Can someone recommend a brand for big-eared people like me? Thanks.

Sony MDR-7506. been using them over 10 years. there's none better, imo. for extra comfort, get the pearstone velour earpads. better comfort & isolation when u add them on. u shouldn't spend more than $125-150 bucks for both the cans & the pads.
